Come on Red, tell me your trips are more productive than the 56 hours in 7 days "Teli-Delhi" UAL (F-CAL) pilots do at EWR on the 777..... When you have a 3 man crew, there is no 30-7 or 32-7. We do the same type trips, worth a bit less but still 40 or more hours in a week are possible. You are wrong

And the last 10 years was the "lost decade" for the legacies, but it's looking a lot better for us in the future. Your own airline is now being described as a legacy itself, which isn't sitting well with your boss. It will be interesting to watch.

You KNOW you are going to work hard, that is because your trips are ultra productive. Great for you. I know I will be going overseas, to an interesting destination with great restaurants. Pilots usually have to leave to work, and hopefully your family understands that (you can do turns though if you are senior enough). So, YOU are wrong. Well, one thing I like about Europe is the toilets all have these cool little drinking fountains right next to the toilets!

Ummmm, that's a sad statement. If your layover is just a "hotel room", then you are missing out. I bid trips for specific restaurants, things to do like tours or seeing museums, or just riding bikes near windmills. Even though Canyonblue doesn't want ANYONE to enjoy a layover if it isn't with family, many do. If you gotta go to work, it's nice to enjoy it, and going somewhere interesting and fun is a plus. You can do that domestically and internationally, but some just can't do it internationally. That is a difference people who might be applying to airlines coming up here may want to think about. Regardless, if you have fun, well, that's awesome.

Um, I'm not really inclined to wade in to this pissing contest but my European layovers are light years better than the domestic stuff I've spent most of my career flying.

I guess it depends on your own sense of adventure. My hotel room is largely irrelevant. My hotel room's surroundings however are not.

So what do you do when you are flying 6 or 7 hours over the Atlantic with very little to do but look out the window at the clouds or count wave tops on the clear days. Don't tell the "Shanwick" controller that the Guinness Factory tour sucks. BTW the old Guinness factory really sucked because it was down in the underground cellars in the dark dodging little trains and puddles of stale stout and tripping over the occasional worker who was having a self induced nap (ala Guinness - they were allowed a bucket each day). The new Guinness Storehouse is quite impressive.

I had a 2,600sf suite for my 55hr layover in PEN. Watching the women jetskiing in burkas (or whatever you call those things) was quite titillating!

The boat drinks were pretty good, too.

Choice is bizarre? Having a choice to fly INTL or Domestic trips? Why is that bizarre? Only you guys get defensive. All I say is I enjoy long haul flying and my layovers. Canyonblue almost had a heart attack! He thinks you should ONLY think about family, even though as pilots we all go on layovers generally (unless you only do turns). If the family can't understand that, well, that sucks. I like having a choice, to fly different places, and I enjoy it. I am glad you enjoy your trips too, but our flying is different than yours mostly, and people may want to know about that before applying to airlines coming up here. No biggie.

It was a hospital, the van driver said. (The one that takes you to the other hotel near the train station). I've never had any problems walking through there, and I usually go to the ferry, take it to the train station, and then go to a few great Rib places. The Thai place is good if the weather is bad.

You know, you sound miserable flying INTL. You complain about Venice, even though less than 1% of US pilots get to go there. (Only DL and USair go nonstop). Then you trash Paris, even though everyone has a favorite restaurant there, and even though traffic sucks, the exit from the plane to hotel is great.

Please bid domestic again and do transcons until you miss the layovers again. You need a change, you are complaining and many, many people on this site would LOVE to have the chance to go to Venice or Paris. At least you have the CHOICE to bid domestic or INTL, but you need a change.
