Gandalf, [a/k/a A.H. in real life, a Skywest ORD RJ CA with 2.5 years total time at Skywest]

I know you're out there. What's your response?

He's busy drinking Herndon Koolaid.......

I wonder how he would be doing at Mesa, Trans States, EGL or PNCL....... would he be better off?

What's the upgrade time at Air Willy or CMR?

What happened to ACA, Alleghany, and CCAir?

Shhhhhh...... we don't talk about those things.....

They are/were ALPA...... did they reach Nirvana?

a 1.95% investment

vtech, it's OK with me if you believe that ALPA would not have been able to get you more. Truth is, we'll never know. A few things though:

1) You seem to think I throw away my 1.95%. Truth is, that is a 1.95% investment that I make each year in my profession, so that BOTH of us might enjoy a better career (since your non-union house will HAVE to meet or exceed what my union house achieves). Only problem is, I'm the only one paying it, and yet you benefit. I'm sure you're a smart guy and can realize that that would chafe those of us shouldering a heavier load.

2) For or against ALPA, you must realize that a lot of the work done by ALPA is to combat such big ticket items as cabotage, foreign ownership, multi-crew licenses, etc. Again, MY dues( because I pay them) go to effect or resist changes that benefit all aviators. How are those at SKYW helping?

3) Matching or even exceeding (slightly) a union shops wages is not an accomplishment. Achieving those wages in the first place was. Certainly, you agree that SKYW would never pay much more than the going rate. I'm not talking a buck or two here and there, I mean REAL improvements.

The problem is, SKYW never takes a turn setting the bar. You are always matching the work done by others. Sadly, there are ALPA carriers that have assumed the same stance (AS, for example. However, AS is currently negotiating, so we'll see if they rise to the occasion).

These points are not meant as an attack. They are meant to inform. FI has generally degraded into name calling and ignorance when it comes to two people with conflicting ideas. I am attempting to avoid both.

I truly hope those of you at SKYW are able to achieve more than what was offered. You are certainly worth it, are you not?

[The virtues of ALPA]

We're worth what the market will bear. Skywest Inc. has determined what the market will bear in negotiations with the ALPA represented ASA pilot group. Skywest pilots have a Profit Sharing program that pays 25% more than the ASA program will AND, if approved, a comparable pay scale. In addition, the Skywest pilot's W-2 will reflect more at the end of the year than an ASA pilot's W-2 because of the work rules. All of the above without the 1.95% kicker the ALPA represented ASA pilot will get to deduct on their tax returns for the "gratuity" to ALPA. I know where I want to be.

I'll vote "YES" and go back to the table next year to discuss further adjustment to the scale if the market will bear it.

The ASA pilot will go back to the table in four years with the help of ALPA and negotiate for who knows how long.

Dispatch only gets 2% COLA as well. So, its not like management is low-balling you comapred to the rest of us.

Did your group go almost 7 years without any COLA??
Doubt it...and I know inflation in SGU didn't come close to inflation costs in California!

I'm pretty sure "the market would bear" enough of an adjustment to at least keep us even with the COLA we didn't receive over the last almost 7 years(seeing as Skyw continues to be one of the most successful airlines around, they shouldn't be making extra profits by letting us slide backwards)!

Well, tell me how it worked out for the ASA pilot group with the assistance of ALPA. Let's see. Yep. There it is right there in their four year agreement. 1% per year COLA for the next three years.

What's your response?

The ASA ALPA pilot group went 6 years without any COLA.....

The ASA ALPA pilot group is now going to get a 1% COLA for each of the next 3 years...... Inflation is much higher than 1 %.......

In summary, the ASA ALPA group gets about a 3% COLA for 9 years.......The Cost of Living has increased around 20 % in that time......

Back to the Skywest sucks..... ALPA rules bitchfest.......

Fair and Balanced.......

If "the market would bear" it, how come ALPA didn't achieve it at ASA??

You have a point regarding COLA.... but ALPA hasn't achieved it either....

Gandalf,

Come on out. You're posting like crazy over there on the SAPAFORUMS. Why won't you play over here?

How about our COLA is 1% for next year and then another big 1% the year after...and I seem to recall you all got retro pay/signing bonus or whatever you want to call it for those 6 years of nothing?! We got nothing for the years that we waited with no COLA!!

He hasn't received his marching orders from Rez O Lewshun yet......

Our COLA is 1% with ALPA, and the "signing bonus" didn't even equal what we would have had if we were paid Skywest rates for those 6 years...... The ALPA Koolaid is thick....
