There is no need to be nasty. Rich Dad Poor Dad is a good book but I found Millionaire Next Door to be more useful. You will be doing yourself a tremendous favor by reading it. The Motley Fool books are good as well.

I still have to wonder though, if a union is so good then wouldnt it have a role (and be able to maintain its presence in the workforce around historical rates of 35-40%) regardless of the jobs available?

I agree with some of your points but I think that aviation is an Unionized anomaly. Pilots themselves find that they are divided on the issue. Most Unionized employees are real salt of the earth, blue collor laborers that are not very highly educated. They care about Friday and 4:30 happy hour. They are concerned about what the Union can do for them... not the other way around.

Many pilots are Unionized but pilots by nature are very type A, go getter, highly educated, self motivated, politically conservative people. Many pilots struggle with the political dichotomy alone in that many are Republican thinkers represented by a body that has it's roots founded in Democratic soil.

I believe that Unions remain in aviation due to the nature of the beast. If management cuts back to maximize profits (which they try constantly to do- it's thei job) it can have a hugely negative affect on safety. The Union is the only device available on the market to provide a ying for managemnts cost cutting yang. It is one of the only legal vehicles to initiate programs and changes in a corporation without waiting for the FAA to insist on change following bloodshed.

I am of the belief that we had a very uneducated, blinded by management, MEC working for us before. Maybe they accepted some sort of side offer, then proceeded to offer a horrible contract at best? I wonder why they declined to assist the new MEC and negotiating committee today with their knowledge.

All we are asking is to be paid at least industry standard for the work we do, and have some quality of life at the same time. If NetJets is so bad off that they can't afford to pay us what 90% of the rest of the country's aviation departments are paying, then this place, and all of our jobs do deserve to be gone.

Yes, I remember that going on too - I don't remember the specifics, but I know they formed the union. I dug around and found this article:

I agree with High Speed. The "Team" concept doesn't exist here. Unfortunately the customers lose out in the end. I wish the puzzle palace folks could realize how much some of the screwups hurt the customers.


I personally haven't had any trouble with the dispatchers. They do a good job. Have to call and give them a fax number every so often. Other than that they don't cause us much problems. They just do what scheduling tells em to do.

1. Where is it that I have demeaned your job? Seems all I read is you brave souls from dispatch, or whether they be the outside 135/91 guys who hate my guts just cause I signed on with this Dog and Pony show,on this board trashing my peers, who, lets face it, have had it.

2. There is no " I " In team, Fred, and frankly, I dont get paid enough to think I am better than you. I cant do your job to the ability that you can, neither can you do mine that way. That is that, point blank, full stop.

I can only speak for myself, but I don’t hate your guts. In practice when I get treated with respect and professionalism, I return it in kind. Unlike you, I have been here years not months. I have seen the change in the relationship between the crews and the casino workers first hand. Right now, it’s the worst I’ve ever seen it and don’t think it stems from how the non-bargaining guys are acting.

I have worked in freight, legacy and charter, and I can agree with you that this place is light years ahead of many others. It was never more in evidence when not one employee, pilot or otherwise laid off after 9/11. That’s pretty special in any industry, but it’s downright unheard of in aviation.

The company owes you an industry (fractional) leading wage. As near as I can tell that’s pretty close to what’s being offered. I don’t think that because you or I work for BH that there is an unlimited bag of money for either of us.

As far as the line goes, BB can take the highroad and claim nothing is going on, but the rework created by the increased DNIFs, bogus write-ups and feet dragging is pretty obvious. The crap on this board and in the press has caused many of us who supported you in the beginning to do a 180.
