Do the folks who opt to go straight to mil leave get the opportunity to attend the Chicago orientation? I have been gone so long, it would be a good UAL refesher.

Military leave. Do you have to be on active-duty or can you select military leave by just being a member of the ANG/AFRC?

Has any traditional reservist/guardsman been granted military leave for thier part-time service?

I believe you have to be either Title 10 (active duty) or Title 32 (AGR).

Not true. Inactive duty (UTA or AFTP) counts the same as active duty orders for military leave. You just might have a more difficult time convincing your company that you can't attend training because you had to attend a 2 day weekend UTA. Search for "USERRA" if you want to see the official rules.

Recalls to seniority #8516

The recalls continued yesterday to fill a 5 February 2007 class. The calls and letters went out to seniority number #8516 with a date of hire Feb 2001. There are 8655 total on the list so only 139 pilots remaining.
I didn't get the word on how many were in the class. I was told Washington and Chicago are the domiciles being filled.

Not true. Inactive duty (UTA or AFTP) counts the same as active duty orders for military leave. You just might have a more difficult time convincing your company that you can't attend training because you had to attend a 2 day weekend UTA. Search for "USERRA" if you want to see the official rules.

The airlines allow mil leave for IDTs, but I've been told that United does not count that time against the six years' mil leave.

Gordo, you are very tapped in to the latest news on recalls. Where are you getting your information? On skynetlite, it shows the junior number being 8446 with 807 taking bypass.


For those who are interested in getting hired at United, get ready. United will almost certainly be hiring in 2007.

Recall Update
I am pleased to announce our second recall class for 2007 which will commence on January 22nd. This class of 20 pilots represents the beginning of a recall of between 300 and 400 pilots for next year. The 2007 recalls are to replace approximately 250 retirements and to service some increases in flying hours, additional international flying which requires more augmentation and a general up-staffing of those fleets in which we have experienced chronic shortages of pilots, particularly the B767 fleet. At this point, 50 pilots have been recalled for next year.

I'm expecting my letter today (#8485) based on my newhire classmate's (#8494) post on the halfwinger site. He got a call from ORDFO stating a letter was in the mail for him. Original company hire date 2/4/01.

FWIW--I will accept but go on mil leave.

But in the context of the subject, you won't get to bypass recall class based on having to perform IDT/UTA or AFTPs. You could get orders for a string of IDT/UTA, but at least in the Oregon Guard, you cannot perform an IDT earlier than 90 days prior to the scheduled IDT, or perform it 90 days after it was scheduled.
