Taco,
who did you submit your LoA request to? I've tried twice so far; unsuccessful both atempts at getting a personal LoA.

I didn't think the company was granting personal LOA's unless it is to fulfill an employment contract of no more than two years.

Otherwise, I'd like to take a LOA and accrue longevity like some of the military guys/gals.

7-D-1 Leave

GuppyPuppy/Puppy,

Once you have been offered a recall, it's too late. But a few weeks ago I submitted to my domocile a one year employment contract with my present firm (not aviation related btw) and had it approved by the FOS there who wrote a letter for my file; he was very accomodating and pleasant about it - thank you ALPA for getting us this important item in the contract.

Best,

Taco

Thanks Taco,
I waited too late...but will try one more time (using the union channel this time). Glad it worked out well for you.

hi everyone,

I am wondering what "Recalled - LOA or LOA upon return 466 23.9%" means?

does that mean something like these guys postponed their recall?

I have about 600 121 pic, and was wondering when off the street hiring would/might

happen if the trend stays similar.

thanks

Here Is The Latest:

To all furloughees,

United has announced the second and third recall classes of 2007. Offers of recall have been made for a 22 January and a 5 February 2007 recall class since the last “Recall Update”. There were 145 initial recall offerings made, plus an additional 17 pilots coming off of recall bypass for these two (2) recall classes. Recall has been offered down to seniority number 8516 (DOH 18 February 2001).

The following are the recall statistics as of 17 November 2006:

As of the 6 November 2006 recall class:
Recalled - Active Status 576
Recalled – LOA 354
Bypassed 795
Resigned 22
Retired (over age 60) 2
Deceased 2

Total Pilots remaining on Furlough/Furlough Bypass 1216

Including the 4 December 2006, 8 January, 22 January and 5 February 2007 recall classes:
Total Offered Recall 2029
Total Furlough Status 139 (have not been offered recall)
Total Responses to date 1945
Recalled - Active or Accepted 654 33.6%
Recalled - LOA or LOA upon return 466 23.9%
Bypassed or Verbal Bypass 803 41.2%
Resigned 22 1.1%

Based on the current statistics, we believe that initial recall offers will be made to all United furloughees by a March 2007 recall class offering. The company has indicated that it plans to recall between 20 and 40 “active” pilots a month through the spring of 2007, though no further class dates have been announced.

It means that these folks have been recalled and are now on a leave of absence. I figure that most of those on leave are on a military leave which can be up to six years in length (depending on their orders, of course). Most of those on a civilian leave will probably not be out more than two years.

The civilian leaves are being given mainly to those furloughees who have to satisfy an employment contract with another company. JetBlue does this with their new hires (requires a two year commitment). So, if a UAL furloughee is currently working for JB, that pilot can accept their UAL recall and take a personal leave to satisfy their two-year commitment to JB, but would then be required to return to UAL.

I believe that those on any type of leave who have accepted a recall will continue to accrue longevity as well as seniority.

Many people think United will have to start hiring in late '07. Maybe. It will all depend on those who have bypassed and whether they decide to return or not. United has at least 803 pilots currently on bypass status.

I am currrently on bypass, but haven't made up my mind yet as to whether I'll come back to United (although I'm leaning heavily towards going back).

Good luck to you.

Andy, You're gonna be real popular with all the senior Captains you're trying to push out of their jobs. Hope you're off probation, Dude.

CAUTION! SEVERE THREAD DRIFT! Nice flamebait.
Yes, I am off of probation.
Push them out of their jobs? Give me a friggin' break. You want to deprive furloughees the right to return to their jobs.
And dude, if you've really got 20K hrs, you're too old to be using the word dude.

any new updates on the recalls? It seems that it has been some time since the last class was announced. Have they reached the bottom of the list yet?

Hey Dude, Gear down. Opinions are great, don't lose track of reality.

Gramps, REALITY is that there are plenty of ON TOPIC threads where you can post this flamebait to me. You chose to post on a thread where it's OFF TOPIC.

But to help make it ON TOPIC, let's tie the two concepts together. What would be the effect on recalls if age 60 changed to 65 (an equally arbitrary number)? Anyone, anyone, Gramps, anyone?
REALITY is that furloughees would be getting screwed by any change.

Now, how about you post this flamebait on a different thread? Or have your cognitive abilities deteriorated to the point where you are unable to comprehend this thread's title, "Latest on UAL Recalls" and all of the previous posts which were related to UAL furloughees returning to United?

REALITY is that you're posting this flamebait on the wrong thread.

I haven't seen any news in a while. The last I had seen was that #8655, junior man on the seniority list, would be offered recall for a late Feb/early Mar class.
With the rumors of a CAL/UAL merge, I've seen rumblings that some previous bypassers may try to get into the next available class for fear of losing seniority on an integrated list. This would slow down recall slightly, but should have no overall effect on when United starts hiring off the street.

Here is a question that I can't seem to get answered. Is United going to honor those people that were hired and put into the hiring pool. Perhaps a small interview or just an update and into a class. I have heard rumors of something like this over at a different airline that will be hiring soon. It would be nice to get an answer. Does anyone know a person at United that would know?

You may want to track down Roger Veseley and ask him. He was in charge of hiring when the music stopped. I don't have his number, but I spoke to him on another issue ~ a year ago. Great guy. He's in Denver somewhere still working for United.

Andy, If a previous bypass calls now before the Jan 22 and Feb 5 class, do they jump in from of the people who've been called for those classes? Or are they just in the que for the next class following Feb 5? Their entry into the current classes would juggle what equipment junior furloughees are assigned.

In the que for the next class. I tried to get into the Dec class, but was told that it was full. I'm now in the 22 Jan class; will be going on mil leave.

For those that went from mil leave to personal leave: is there a difference between the two as far as your status or travel benefits? I know you can do the mil leave for 6 years, and a personal leave is for a set time,... but I'm talking about nuances that separate the two.

Latest on UAL furloughees

United has increased the class sizes of the 22 January and 5 February 2007 recall classes from 20 active pilots to 30 active pilots. In order to fill the additional 20 positions created by the increased class sizes 106 more initial recall offerings were made, plus an additional 5 pilots coming off of recall bypass. Recall has been offered down to seniority number 8622 (DOH 4 June 2001). With the increase in size of these two recall classes and a second recall class planned (but not yet announced) for later in February 2007, we now believe that all of United's furloughees will have received an initial recall offer by the end of 2006 with an offered return date by the end of February 2007. The next class offering will also most likely include the first pilots to be recalled without "Recall Bypass" rights.

The following are the recall statistics as of 15 December 2006:

As of the 4 December 2006 recall class:

Recalled - Active Status 606 Total in 2006 462

Recalled - LOA 376

Bypassed 838

Resigned 25

Retired (over age 60) 2

Deceased 2

Total Pilots remaining on Furlough/Furlough Bypass 1161

Including the 8 January, 22 January and 5 February 2007 recall classes:

Total Offered Recall 2139

Total Furlough Status 33 (have not been offered recall)

Total Responses to date 2109

Recalled - Active or Accepted 691 32.8%

Recalled - LOA or LOA upon return 542 25.7%

Bypassed or Verbal Bypass 851 40.3%

Resigned 25 1.2%

We have reached another milestone in the recall process. With the latest recall offers being made we have less then 100 pilots on furlough who have not yet been offered recall to United. Therefore, as per LOA 04-07 "Furlough Recall Bypass" the company has mailed notification of impending expiration of bypass rights. The "Recall Bypass Expiration" letter was sent to all furloughees who have previously bypassed and to the remaining furloughees who have not yet received recall notice this past Friday, 15 December 2006. This letter was sent via FedEx "signature required", unless the furloughee's address on file with the company is either a P.O. Box or an APO address in which case it was sent via certified mail return receipt. All future recall notices will also be sent in this manner.

As a reminder, it is your responsibility to update the company with any change in your address or contact information, as is stated in Section 7-C and reiterated in LOA 04-07. For your protection and to comply with the contract all address updates need to be mailed via certified mail return receipt or via FedEx "signature required"

Andy,

Thanks for the info. I will try and get ahold of Roger. Does anyone have a number to the TK. I will try the number listed on my congrats welcome to UAL letter. If anyone finds an answer please post it.

Terry,

Try the flight training center DENTK at (303) 780-3600 or the receptionist at (303) 780-5543 and see if someone can transfer you or get the number for Roger from them.

Anyone know how you're notified if a LOA has been approved? The first time I put in for it was when I returned the recall package. It was a short leave request and they asked for which dates, which for me was only a few months.

From what I've heard, you'll need to call your chief pilot and ping him about it. I think he's the one that approves or disapproves it for short term ones. Longer ones have to go to WHQ.

Call your old domicile. You have probably been approved - they just won't bother to call you to tell you so.

I sent a quick email to Bob Neil and he told me I got it. (90 days, takes care of 1st year pay for me) Waiting for my crack at Tilton.....

Take care.

What happens then? Are you automatically assigned the following class after your 90 days (or whatever leave you got) are up? Thanks for the answers, guys.
