Just Shredded The Union Card

Funny thing is Bogart that I have talked to at least 12 people, myself included, who have sent their union cards in since we got that email from BS. I will take a 12 to 1 ratio anyday.

In our last union drive by the UAW, I was sent a card, even though I am management, I do fly the line and was on the seniority list

Not Spiteful at all, it is in response to the earlier post about a possible buyout/merger of CS.
I don't have any info about it, but I'd be hard pressed to accept a non NJI/NJA, non Union group, in any other way than being placed at the bottom of our seniority list.

This is all speculation based on one post and my personal opinion.


PS, I'm not trying to garner any support for "my" side. It's abundantly clear about the mgt/labor relationship. You get what you negotiate for, or you accept what they give you. I like the first idea.

I mean, the pilots have to suffer with industry leading pay, specified work rules, full insurance, over 100 bases, great representation, a good LMRP, and more. And the POOR company!! What nerve the Union (1108) has sending the CitationShares pilots unsolicited cards in the mail. I just gave mine a quick trip through the shredder. They have gonads the size of elephants. Say NO to the union.

Maybe the reason some people (myself included) are resistant to 1108 is the way it is being presented to us at the other fractionals. There seem to be about 10 people at each company that post 95% of the time on here and they feel it is their right to DECREE that every fractional MUST join 1108. If you have an opinion other than theirs, they call you a management pilot, a scab, or tell you they can't wait until they buy you and staple you to the bottom of their list. Wow, nice way to try to intimidate fellow pilots into doing what you say.

It seems that an employee group probably needs a union when management is treating you so poorly that there is no other choice. From my time spent in FBO crew lounges it seems that the only pilots that complain more than the NetJet guys/gals are the Flight Option guys/gals. Hmmmm, what do those two have in common.

It seems that the union promoters all want us to join because everyone else is doing it and by us joining 1108 we will all instantly get NetJet pay and work rules. When I was hired at FlexJet NetJets had a contract under 1108 and they were one of the lower paid fractionals. Why do these people believe that we will get what NetJets has now with our first contract?

They also tell me how bad management is treating me. Wait, isn't that a decision I am allowed to make, or do I need to relinquish all thought to the 1108 since they apparently know better than us. I do appreciate your interest in bettering all the other fractionals, and when I feel that we need that here I will probably come asking.

You should know by now that this web-site is the last place you should go if looking for factual, unbiased information.

Not true. It wasn't until the NetJet pilots formed their own local, (Local 1108), that they negotiated their industry leading cintract.

As a former Flex guy I can appreciate whats its like to be looking at the other companies. (I'm happy at 1108 and Netjets since leaving all my friends at Flex)

You made a huge mistake shredding that paper my friend. Do you know the environmental impact of wasting paper?! I used my mailing to make a grocery list, plan the dimensions of a wood working project, make a rough draft of my new year's resolutions, and finally make another grocery list. You need to do penance to the Green Gods and be more careful in the future!

If you had representation, chances are you would have lots of money left over after doing your grocery shopping.

1108 is not going to organize for you nor force you to organize and if you do. 1108 will just show you how. If you choose your own, none, or other, it is your choice. Any contract you get is what you are willing to fight for. A Union is the membership. You may be happy with what you have but others are probably not.

While, wages and benefits are extremely important in a contract, the little discussed but most important benefit of any CBA, in my opinion, is the Duty of Fair Representation and Weingarten like rights. Challenging bogus discipline personally/individually can be expensive. Bogus discipline does not happen at NJA - our Steward corps and Union leadership makes sure of that. Both the Company and the 1108 pilot group are better off as a result.

Status quo? A union is anything but status quo. The pot is always being stirred and once every four or five years everybody in the company needs to go through the never-ending and nervewracking nightmare called "negotiations".

Should the economy slip, these "negotiations" are never ending, and bankruptcy or even worse may occur when the union drags it's feet like it always does.

Status quo at a non-union carrier means a stable and profitable career without the nightmare of negotiations or the threat of a job loss due to radical union intervention.
