Hi, it's Dave again. I think our priorities are misplaced when a pilot can make $100,000 per year when it's management that needs the incentive to stay with the company and turn the ship around.

The rest of the world knows that pilots are overpaid prima donnas. Where the public is wrong though is in thinking that they are sophisticated. They are nothing more than sophomoric trailer trash. Just look at their language. Part of the reason I have so brilliantly predicted the demise of Jet Blue is because their management team simply pays their pilots too much.

I agree! The median income in the US is around $50K. I don't see any reason for a pilot to make any more than $30K. After all, there are a lot of people that would PAY to get to fly a jet. Plus these new jets are all electric, and practically fly themselves. You don't even have to fly them anymore.

Hey DA-20 jet in life you have to stand up for your beliefs. I have seen too many successful pilots that are not college graduates. My PPC flying the P-3 around Vietnam did not have a 4-yr degree, career retiree from DAL, I could name dozens more. My grandson who is in high school is starting flight lessons, he is thinking of becoming a pilot like his father and grandfather. If he does not want to pursue the military route like his father and grandfather, I will recommend to him he not go to college, his career will get a better start than the college graduate. I stand by my convictions.

The rest of the world produces engineers that work are happy to work for $18,000/yr, doctors that are happy with $25,000 (and CEO's that are happy to only make 100 times what the janitor makes.) That's not the direction I want this profession to take.

Any JetBlue pilot making 100K a year most likely averages 20 years experience and has a colllege degree.

Look around the NY metro area where they are based. Finding someone making over 100K that has over 20 years of experience in a technical field, a degree and speaks english as a first language isn't real difficult.


Second, spare me the "only 15-17 days a month", or "only 20 hours a week" crap. Time away from base is the real factor, and most guys average 60-70 hours a week away from home.

FJ, YIP doesn't equate to team. I'm afraid that you've got the wrong impression there my friend. YIP isn't on the team. YIP is management. YIP's goal is keeping expectations as low as possible so that he can continue to receive a steady supply of workers willing to accept trash wages and work rules.

BTW, YIP, you know that a pilots work day doesn't compare to a normal workers 8-5 day, so why do you continue to claim that pilots only work 15 days? Oh wait, I've already answered that, you're trying to keep your guys happy with the perception of having a "good" job. Sorry, but living near Detroit and being on short call just to drive a jet don't make it a good job.

C-150 according to the latest Air Inc figures from Kit himself. 15% of JB’s pilots do not have a college degree. From our company six pilots have interviewed at JB, three had degrees, three did not, 3 pilots were hired, one a degree two did not have a degrees. Two of the three hired had been 121 Check Airman. All of them had less than 10 years flying experience, less than 5 years in jets. Average age 35. Most of the JB pilots ddo not live in the NYC area, the ones I know live in Toledo, Yspilanti, and Cleveland. These facts do not match your statement.

Calvin, I have worked both sides, yes pilot put in long days, and yes they stay up all night some times. However, the quality of time off for a line pilot beats the heck out of management time off. I am management by default, disappearing jobs, unemployment and being in my mid-50 does not leave a lot options. You take what you can get to make it to retirement.

Calvin: Yes, I know that Yip is not on the team. I have pm'd him to thank him for his service to our country and to congratulate him on the fact that he was able to make a very nice life for himself flying jets from his humble beginnings and without a college education. I really do admire that. And if I had come up through the ranks like he did I would be very proud of myself as well. It is fantastic what he has accomplished in life.

That being said, I too think that his advice and continued parroting of the 100K is a good wage yada yada yada just gets really old. That is why I have him on my ignore list. So I only read his constant drivel when somebody else quotes him.

I also don't think that his advice is necessarily relevant in today's world, but that is simply my opinion. The last thing I would do for my children is recommend that they rely soley on a HS education to make in this world, I don't care what field they are interested in. But that is just me.

He is entitled to parrot away and remind everybody how he did it, and I can continue to ignore him. Sorry to everyone else for the thread drift.

If things are so great at the Ypsilanti sweat shop you run, (ya know, the 100K plus salaries a year, all them days off ya talked about, the beeper implanted in the anus) why would them college boys take off fer a money-loser like JetBleu??

I guess when I git my online degree at ERAU I'll be able to figger it out.
