Just curious about all the hiring going on at JB. A lot of new aircraft deliveries? Increased flying? Just seems like a lot of new hiring vs not so much expansion/growth. Thx 4 any info.

Taking delivery of 14 airframes in 2013. Started ' 13 with 180 airframes, so approximately 8 % growth. Probably some attrition in there as well.

Probably see JB ramp-up hiring even further when Delta hiring opens up. Expect high-time RJ FOs to be greeted with open arms.

They have to hire to replace the Airbus Captains that leave to take recall at American,United and Delta soon . Destination airline? Not so much. American has much better healthcare and work rules in bankrupcy. United and Delta contracts blow away everything in Jetblues individual contract. The company is now talking about an unlimited 2 way code share. Organic growth was the word du jour during the last few years. Management said we need protections against code sharing 16 months ago and now they say we dont need those protections. They actually told the pilots its good for their growth plans. Profit sharing? None whatsoever! My advice to regional guys is dont waste time with jetblue hold out for a major.

Fact: JetBlue pilots are leaving for other major airlines.

Question: How many pilots from other major airlines are leaving for JetBlue?

Want to make this a destination airline? Take matters into your own hands and unionize. Stand up for yourself, your family, and your profession!

Any regional guy who holds out for anything either lives in base or hasn't been watching what's been going on at the regionals the past 10 years. JetBlue might have its problems, but comparing it to most regionals is stupid. Also, remember that the perfect "major" airline job might never come.

this....100%

It's going to be cheaper for JB to have some pilot attrition that it will be to match the contracts at SW, DAL, etc. There are bound to be some pilots leaving but as a percentage of the total pilot group how many is it really? Some accountant somewhere is probably running the numbers on this and looking at the cost of replacing attrition compared to the cost of increasing compensation to reduce the attrition. Somewhere there is a balance point and they will figure out what it is. I think it's going to be quite some time before they have any trouble finding new hires.

My advise is this. If you are a captain at a regional with over 1000pic. It's better to wait it out at jetblue than at a regional for. a phone call from a legacy. If you have a family, jetblue benefits are insulting when compared to our peers at other airlines.
You get to fly and do class II Navigation. Get time in an airplane over 100k pounds.
While jetblue has aircraft orders, those can always be deferred. At other airlines pilots are getting older. That is inevitable.

Thought that before with age 60, now they will just raise the age to 70. So maybe you shouldn't count on that either.

If Delta and/or American wants to get rid of that pesky thorn-in-their-side blue outfit in NY and BOS they don't have to buy JB or even go up against them in a route-structure battle: Just give preferential interviews/hiring to JB pilots at a rate which the training dept. can't match. Then, JB starts parking airplanes...and that will be that.

You are theoretically correct. However, your theory depends heavily on one very important assumption. An assumption that I have observed to be largely false so far at least.

What assumption would that be, I'm curious?

I think you have a good idea, it I think dl Aa and dual will favor blue pilots. I also think it will work to some degree. However, I have NEVER flown with any captain here that has his resume out. Some furlough recalls yes, but no new applicants. The fo's I talked to are mixed, some applying and many not. So there is probably only 25% of the JetBlue pilots actively pursuing other companies. Can change though.

If we start falling further and further behind (most likely) that might change.

How many LIFT awards does it take to pay a mortgage?

I've flown with about 7-10 Airbus captains that have Applications out to Delta, United, and or FedEx all under 45 years old. Now would they actually leave that is the question but they all have taken the time to fill out the applications fully and update them.

I can say that my experience has been different from Smarta$$. Most captains I fly with are staying, unless they are junior and young.

However, I have yet to meet a copilot that hasn't got apps out there. The universal response as to why doesn't even include pay, benefits, etc. It's always the same thing. "In the next 10 years I'm going to move up about 100 numbers." No movement. While at every legacy, you'll move up 100 numbers in a few months.

The math says go if you are in the right seat, it even says go if you are a young enough and junior enough captain. I think most guys realize this, and once the hiring starts bigtime, it's going to get real ugly.

But, but, but...will they get LIFT awards at those places? I think that should be a determining factor. How do you "place a value" on a LIFT? You can't. The emotional/psychological benefits are simply immeasurable.

Which is exactly why I'm planning to stay. What the seniority calculator doesn't take into account is the attrition to other carriers. I'm hoping lots of people are pissed off and leave. I think everyone senior to me should go to Delta. ;)

So if everyone else ran out of a burning house would you stick around since you'd have the whole place to yourself?
