I think the broader point is that far too many pilots nowadays go to regionals, then go to majors, and are somehow surprised that their paychecks don't go up like they somehow expected.

US flying simply isn't what it used to be, nor is it ever likely to return. If high pay and lots of days off are what you want out of flying, you'll have to broaden your horizons beyond the major/regional-lift model.

The sooner, the better, IMHO.

I'm with ya on that. Making the jump from corporate to a 12-day off build-up reserve at a regional has actually been a fantastic bump in my QOL-and I don't even have a 'good schedule' by most standards, however, this is my one shot at the airline side. If it doesn't work out I'm running back to corporate or international long enough for me to get set up and get out of this line of work. It is quickly becoming not worth it anymore.

What kind of god-awful schedule did you have flying that Hawker that a 12 day off build-up provides a bump in QOL?

Were you pure 91 or managed 91/135? Were you always on call?

I'll be right behind you...Actually, I might beat ya there.....This regional airline bs is NUTS!

I'm not fed up with this $hit. My company is highly profitable and will be hiring shortly. I'm a 7yr F/O, I fly widebodies internationally and I make over $175,000 (NOT including per diem) flying just a few open trips a year.

I won a multi-million dollar lottery, and I just do this for fun, and the crew meals.

91/135/91k

Crazy huh? Yeah, basically no hard days off. Didn't actually work that much but had to be available. Lots of overnights. No hard days and no real advance notice makes it tough to make plans. The fam is much happier now.

You too?!

I will admit I don't like leaving my Bentley in the Crew Lot.

The only thing corporate was the plane you were flying.

The part the brown eye does not tell you about is flying all night somwhere over china barely able to keep his blood shot eyes open and having not seen his family for 2 weeks.. followed shortly by an NDB approach to some God forsaken communist territory where you have to driven to your hotel by armed gaurds in a bullet proof van

Yeah, well Big Brown is always going to be nothing more than a pipe dream to 90% of the guys out there. Glad you made it, enjoy the ride!

Well folks, I've just about had it. My commitment to this industry does not run deep. I'm 3 weeks from throwing in the towel... or chair.

Good luck to everyone!

And another on bites the dust!
Sorry to see you go Shy. I remember talking to you at length before about something before...buying a plane or something. My guess is you won't quit flying, just airline flying? Anyway, good luck!

Turds like this guy are one more reason to get out of the business.

Browntothebone,

I hope you realize the discussion is for people that are not at UPS or NWA/Delta, etc. Come on you must know that you were bragging.

I feel for the regional f/o with a family and not to much coming in the way of upgrades. It's a tough industry and there may well be better opportunities out there. I know I have a good job, but I'm always looking for a plan b.

I'm sure the other UPS guys cringed when they read your post.

Good luck to all.

KDET isn't that bad. Is it?

Could you give us the address for your Myspace and Facebook pages...you know the one's with all the pics of the pretty brown planes and you in your lovely brown uniform in the flight deck? Can I be your friend?

Management is facing unprecedented expenses, and cutting back any way they can. Look for the practice of PFT to resurface with the next hiring wave, to help companies offset the massive training costs of pilots.

This is not totally out of the question. And the sad part is that there will still be a line of applicants.
