Anyone here working at Evergreen have any updates? Still 5 FOs on furlough? Any recall news?

Is "Buzz" still DO?

And what position is Captain SH in now?

I don't work there, but talked to a line guy who said the furloughs have been recalled (except for a bypass). He also said something about hiring in the next 2 months.

Just got a companywide voicemail from Buzz yesterday...hiring 16 as we speak for the 4th 'Dreamlifter" and then 17 later for a forecasted 747-4 by Feb. But as we all know this could change in a day!!

I heard they are doing the Air France one first then maybe the JAL plane..I know the MX guys are starting -400 training.

Thats great finally maybe a bit of Mov't. I don't get to hear all the "5 Towns" rumors over here on the LCF side of the house in CHS.

The first -400 coming is AF, with two more coming after that, all perhaps by end of 2010. AF wants very badly to get rid of them.

JAL offered the ENTIRE -400BCF fleet, along with offering to carry the paper on them. The situation is so dire over there now that I believe they backed out of the last bit.

I bet those JAL planes are in perfect shape too.

Just curious-
Is Evergreen home-basing pilots, or is it still a handful of domiciles? If the latter is true- which one is junior (for F/Os)?

JFK and SUU are the bases for the classics. JFK is the one a new hire would get- SUU only supports two airplanes, so it is small and fairly senior.

Only "home based" pilots are the check airmen.

With the way things are, they can be very picky. To get a shot, you need a pilot recommendation. 4000 hr ATP.. and prior museum experience.

Trust me you don't want to fly for Evergreen. Don't get me wrong, there are some very good people there and I enjoyed the work. Unless there are current contracts flying is scarce. I've seen furloughs go very deep!

There is no such thing as a sure thing. If you need a job, go for it. There are alot worse out there. Evergreen has its problems, but its not all that bad.

Funnest flying I've ever done! QOL compared to other similar carriers not bad (business class or better commercialing 16 on, 14 or 15 off, Vacation.. you get a month off,) pay not very good though compared to similar carriers and you could get 32 days flying in a row if you're not careful, but on the other hand you can also get a month off and if you bid vacation time right that can end up as 2 months off. When I left my last position (which was pretty descent) my apps were to these kinds of carriers (Atlas / Polar, ATI, ABX...etc) so I could experience a few years seeing the world on someone elses dime (or should I say nickel ) and acquire some heavy international experience. This type of flying isn't for everyone...I've seen guys quit after a few months and others love it and never want to go back to the grind of flying "self loading cargo" doing 3 days on 2 days off and going to beautiful places like Harrisburgh, Pa.!
The last point I will; make about Evergreen that is most important....Don't be in the bottom 10% of the seniority list in Jan!! This year is an exception but most years Jan things slow to a halt until about April and the seniority list is shrunk to correspond.

All the flying is pretty much long term contracts (Boeing, US military and now the Chinese authorizations for Shanghai)..that is one thing that EZ seems to do right.
