I don't think most see it that way. DHL is the competition and UPS is looking out for the best interests of its company, its shareholders and UPS employees.
If the roles were reversed you guys would do the same thing, and you as a DHL employee would advocate the same thing. Business is business and it's usually ugly and unforgiving.

In 1951, Jim Casey established The UPS Foundation because he understood that the financial bottom line and community service are not mutually exclusive and that, in order to do both, you had to do them together. He believed in doing the right things for the right reasons, and today's UPS leadership has built on his efforts.
Jim Casey saw things that way. "Doing well by doing good" were his exact words.
Now come on down to Wilmington, Bob. Your mother lives in Columbus so it should not be to much to do so. And tell me how this community will be able to keep its schools open. This move will destroy this community. Why is that so hard for everyone to figure out? And ask if that is doing the right thing for the right reason.
Wilmington isn't the first community that this has happened to, and it will not be the last.
Pittsburgh, PA is still a vibrant city and many more jobs were lost there by steel mill closings than will be lost by DHL switching vendors. Quit being so dramatic.

I understand your feelings on this Shooter, but precisely how would the employees force management to do anything legally? All I've ever asked for on this board is for UPS folks to not get their knickers in a bunch when we unleashed the hounds against both DHL and UPS. I think that's about the best one could hope for.

Shooter, no one doubts the impact, all are empathic with the people from central Ohio. The base fact though is that my prayer list is getting awful long every night for those in storms of one kind or another. Haiti, Cuba, Turks and Caicos, Galveston, on and on. The world seems in a negative mode at the moment and chemo is not helping me deal with it. Nevertheless, this is not going to change the situtation. My mother used to say "this too will pass" I used to tell her it will quicker if we do something about it." It is time to move on.
No, what I said was that some, indeterminate number of the jobs being lost are "McJobs"...low paying, part-time jobs that have no benefits to speak of. Those kinds of positions are typically filled by students, housewives, and people monlighting from their primary occupation. They are not a family's sole source of income. While losing that "job" may mean having to sell a boat or sports car or picking up more student debt, I doubt any of them will lose their farm over this.By the time DHL closes it's doors in Wilmington? What is that supposed to mean? Are you trying to say that the impact will be less devastating if the job losses come over the period of a year rather than 3 months? Does your argument assume that the only jobs being lost are part-time sorter jobs and pilots without any regard to the other fine paying jobs that will be lost and comparing them to burger-flipping jobs?
Make no mistake that this will have a devastating impact to the area and no amount of misinformed rationalization will change those facts.
