Its ironic how pilots complain about being worked too hard and then complain about not being worked at all. How about being thankful you have a job? There are guys out there whom have lost their jobs or on there way to it and you're biggest problem is sitting? Just a reality check buddy.

I don't think its a matter complaining of being not worked. Its more a complaint about sitting at an FBO on standby for 10+ hours when the hotel you came from, and will most likely return to, is right across the street!

Scheduling does have the option of showing us at the hotel. If called we have 30 minutes to be in the lobby and 30 minutes to get to the plane. If we're primary backup, show us at the FBO otherwise we should be at the hotel.

But I do agree with you, that in the big picture, its not a major issue, just annoying and unnecessary.

When I was at options I did almost 90 hours of FBO stby in one tour. The following week I was off to CGF for a productivity "seminar".

While im grateful i have a job, I really don't like being abused to the point of insanity. I understand why we need backups, but when we have a backup to a backup to a backup to a backup, it starts to get really annoying.

And If it is for a legit reason make me sit, but from my point of view its done to show usage and spite.

If the hotel is that close, why don't you just stay at the hotel and if they need ya, just walk across the street?

Cause, they will call up and check if your there. Or send a rep to find the crew. Also I heard of them call the hotel to make sure you checked out.

the schedulers don't know where the hotel is in relationship to the FBO and the reason they don't sit people at the hotel when there is a good plane at the FBO is becuase back in the day some crews would take hours to get to the plane even though it say within 30 minutes

Exactly...and it's not just "back in the day". It still happens.

Also, you may see 3 or 4 hot spares in TEB. But, remember, we have different owners who require different aircraft. We are not un-neccesarily going to upgrade an Ultra owner to a Falcon because we didn't want more than 1 crew sitting on standby. The same goes for the Flacon owner who refuses to fly on an Ultra.

When you start seeing 3 or 4 XL's with nothing to do, than bring it to their attention.

Oh please scheduling shows fbo stby so that the crew matrix looks stronger. Same with making a crew sit fbo stby in the morning and then airline them home on the last flight in the afternoon. Only to have that flight delayed and then have to pay out an aftermidnight, but thats from a different cookie jar so no big deal.

You can have a fleet of xl's sitting in TEB and scheduling will still say you're backing up a Ultra in LAX. Yeah its true.

A crew can be at the airport asap unfortunatly a couple of guys screw it up. You'll always have a percentage in every group. Sadly scheduling takes the easy way out and punishes everyone.

Ah, the old "a few guys defecate in their trousers so we all have to wear diapers now" routine.
