You have no idea how long I have waited for someone like you! Thank you, thank you, thank you! What a post! I read it and I HAVE to tell you I have not laughed this hard in about over a year. I'm sitting here in my office laughing like a mad women reading your incredible post. For so long, I was looking for a good 'argument' and you covered it all. So very well said!

Beautiful logic, incredible sense of humor, and pure facts.
Thank you!

This is one post I will copy and keep it for those who try to impose their religion on me. This is the one I will keep forever. Thanks!

Sorry to cut this reply short, I need to go back to your post and read it again.

You have got to have your own page somewhere...PM me if you do.
Keep up the good job. Welcome to the club!

I also nearly wet my pants reading that post.

The way it's written made me think of someone like Jeff Goldblum reading it or something :)

Umm, yeah. What if he was reading the USAToday that morning instead? What if that newspaper had something un-christian somewhere in the op-ed section, and the capricious big man upstairs opened up a can of smite-all on these poor folks and used the FO as an instrument of His Will?

Yup, just as stupid to think he's alive for reading the Good Book earlier that day.

My favorite letter of all time:
Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we
do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.

Jim

Ya know, it's just absurd. This guy has one HECK of a tough life ahead of him, and he has to find peace. I hope he recovers.

Loved your post.

Better watch out though, you don't have 'enough' Total Flight Time mentioned in your profile to be taken serioulsy on this forum.

First off I will say to each their own but,

isnt it odd that you get so excited about a post of Carlins thoughts and you state them as PURE FACTS!! Yet have you taken any time to educate yourselve on the bible? I truley hope that some day you do take the time to seek meaning and truth in the bible and get excited about that.

Disclaimer: Again I dont think down apon anyone who doesnt share my beliefs, I am simply sharing my opinions. ;)

All right, seriously guys and gals, you've got to get out more. This is some classic comedy from George Carlin. Perhaps you've heard of him? He's been performing since the 1960's, I believe. Go rent yourself some videos of his stand-up. The man is nothing short of a comic genius. If you youngin's still don't know who he his, perhaps you saw him playing the role of the Catholic Preist in "Dogma," I believe he was also in one of the "Scary Movies" as well, or perhaps you've seen him in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure." He is perhaps 70+ years old at this point, and still just as sharp as ever.

That's got nothing to do with Christianity.

Oh...so it's OK for 'God believing' folks to HATE other people created by the same god?

Of course having sex with young boys in churches has nothing to do with Christianity either, right?

Get it...they are not even ordinary mortals like you and me, but specially chosen priests...who teach god's word.

Interesting!

The point foofigher is making is that most people who vehemently preach their belief in god and Christianity (and other religions; Islam, Judaism, etc.) are the ones who are some of the most flagrant violators of the same values they teach.

You sir/ma'am are an idiot. The one individual that needs prayer is you. The F/O is getting the prayer that he needs from others. What is ashame is that you believe that evolution is beginning, man is supreme, we did this...
The problem is that you have not been touched by the Holy Spirit. Hell needs people like you.

You Ma'am are an epitome of someone who preaches their beliefs on other and of if this conversation were taking place few hundred years before, you'd be the first one to 'burn' me (us - non believers) because we don't agree with you.

The compassion your (and other religions) religion show is astonishing!

And what did I do not to get 'touched by the Holy Spirit? I was born in to a devout Catholic family?

Tell me this. Who created God? What was before God?
This crap with Allah (God) is getting old and is dragging the United States back in to the middle ages. The more advanced a nation, the less need for Allah. Comair guys screwed up. Sh$t happens. I feel for all those affected. Good luck to all the guys at Comair and a speedy recovery for the FO.

I am a believer and at no time have i or will i hate anyone that doesnt believe. To each there own i say. I dont think you will find a true believer and follower of Christ ever say they HATE a nonbeliever. Again thats my opinion.

You are showing how small minded you are by that post. Out of the entire Population of Priests, Pastors, Holy men/Woman etc, that because of a few bad ducks the whole religion is bad? So i suppose than since some one murdered someone today somewhere in the world that you yourself are a murderer? Because someone does something wrong, Which i totally agree is wrong, does not mean that everyone is like that.

You have no idea, friend, how much I read it growing up. It was imposed on me at home, in the church, in school...every where.

Wow...I never knew Carlin was a comedian...oh my...what was I thinking...I must not have been born, raized, and lived in the US...or other English speaking countries.

Do you think you rebel against it because it was forced on you as a child? See it wasnt forced on me, my parents took us to church every now and again growing up. I choose to believe as an adult was in no way forced into my beliefs. I am sorry that it was forced on you. I for one dont believe that it should be forced on anyone. People need to believe on their own not because others tell them they should. Just my thoughts.:)

So what?

Hitler believed in gravity. So did Stalin. They are arguably the worst people in recent history. Because bad people believed in gravity does that mean it doesn't exist?

US mililtary personell fire-bombed Dresden and killed hundreds of thousands in Hiroshima and Nagasaki all to protect the American way of life. Do those horrific attacks make the US a figment of our imagination?

Of course not.

Both the Allies and the Axis claimed God was on their side and that they were acting according to his will. Obviously somebody was wrong. The point is that just saying you're doing what God wants doesn't make it true, and it definitely doesn't mean He doesn't exist.

So why would you base the existence of God on what other people say or do? If God really does exist, do you think He would change dependent upon what people said He was like, or what people said He wanted them to do? If everyone said the sky is red, would that make it red? It's a rediculous notion.

What people say about God or what they do in His name is entirely irrelevant to whether or not God actually exists and what He's really like.

George says Paul wants him to go on a shooting spree. That's bad. I guess Paul doesn't exist.

Now that's some screwed-up reasoning.

So you imply that all Pastors, and priests are that way? Hardly. Besides you hear about the bad apples on the news not so much about the good ones. The news is that 90% bad things To Generalize Religion based on those bad priests is a pretty lame stance if you ask me.

This is nonsense, it seems we are divided about 50/50 and nobody is really going to change their feelings on the matter based upon something they read at a pilot forum.
Some people think other people are crazy to believe in God, other people think people are crazy not to. I happen to be one of the former, but I've spent countless hours of my life trying to impose my thoughts on others and I've probably spent 4 or 5 hours in this THREAD ALONE, and I'm not spending any more...

So, GOOD DAY TO YOU ALL

;)

Flybunny,

Never mind about Carlin. You'd probably be offended by much of his comedy because it deals with the proper use of the English language.
Carry on, everyone. Would someone please start a new thread if you can actually definitively answer the God question? Thanks.
Also, good luck to the FO, as his pain is only just beginning.

-Blucher:rolleyes:

All.
This thread is about the condition of the FO, not your personal religious beliefs. Lets all try to get this thread back on track.....please.

"I cannot conceive of a God who rewards and punishes his creatures, or has a will of the kind that we experience in ourselves. Neither can I nor would I want to conceive of an individual that survives his physical death; let feeble souls, from fear or absurd egoism, cherish such thoughts. I am satisfied with the mystery of the eternity of life and with the awareness and a glimpse of the marvelous structure of the existing world, together with the devoted striving to comprehend a portion, be it ever so tiny, of the Reason that manifests itself in nature."

Are you saying the FO survived because he recently read the bible? I guess the other 49 people haven't read it recently. I bet they wish they were airline pilots with a free bible in every room. Had they read it they would have survived as well.

No, smarty pants Jim, I'm NOT saying that, you're getting squirelly on me {c;. One of the Columbine killers asked a girl classmate who was an active Christian if she still believed in God, she replied "Yes" and got a fatal bullet for it.

Bad things happen to good people all the time, and vice-versa. Where is the justice in this world? This common lament expressed by humanity is found in many books of the Bible.

I'm just presuming that James was and is in at least a period of spritual searching. I'm not even stating as fact that he is a Christian, just hoping and presuming so.
