Well, being professional, would be not allowing someone in your jumpseat that is going to be a distraction and comprimise the safety of the flight for any reason. If you arent' going to be able to operate that flight the same as normal becasue of someone sitting right behind you, then I say it is your responsibility to not allow them in.

Thats funny, because at "my house" I doubt any of us have a problem with anyone's union affiliation. In fact, I have never even asked for anybody's union affiliation when they have requested the Jumpseat.

How about trying this...don't even ask what union the Jumpseater belongs to...then you won't feel like there is going to be a distaction or that safety is going to be compromised.

And for the record...never in my 24+ years of airline flying, have I ever felt like a jumpseater was a distraction or could compromise the safety of the flight.

As for not being able to operate the flight the same as normal...try doing what I do.

I operate my airplane the same no matter if the jumpseater is from my company or another...or if a check airman is observing... or if a fed is onboard...or if it is our esteemed Chairman....or if I'm in the simulator.

If a pilot operates their airplane differently depending on who is or isn't on the jumpseat...then that pilot has got bigger problems than worrying about who belongs to what union.

Well said Tex...my sentiments exactly...

original US Air pilots can be identified by a small "A$$xxxx" on the back of their id.
So you can make distinctions when granting the privilege of the jumpseat.

Plus they shoot their guns in the cockpit.

Your missing my point Tejas, and I'm not talking about union affiliation, I could care less. But under certain circumstances, I would deny the jumpseat. I haven't done it yet, but it is my right. Jumpseating is a priviledge, not a right. Thats what you seen to miss. If you have a problem with someone in the jumpseat, personal or professional, it is a distraction, could be for a variety of reasons. If you want to believe that you are so professional no one could piss you off enough to distract you, go ahead but that's b.s.

I would love a J/s war. Would add some more spice in this entertaining life. I have not needed to J/S in 25 years on other airlines. I will have no problem denying ALPA pilots the J/S if I hear USAPA pilots being denied. USair carries a boat load of commuters and it will just make their life miserable. Game on.

mcdu- i think that this merger mess is just your version of days of our lives... youre like the housewife that actually cries when luke marries laura and then cheats on her... a drama queen.

i wonder if you would even know what to do w/ yourself if you didn't have a conflict w/ some group in the airlines- be it management- another pilot group- a union- etc etc

there are plenty of us though that have lives and are much more invested in unifying our fractured profession than flaming on the debates.

That god-awful neon yellow lanyard is too distracting. Find another way home.

Dooode...get a girlfriend, bang a crazy looking FA where you 'know' the sex will be freaky, find a hobby, get a dog...DO ANYTHING.

But quit getting on here and being ALPA's biggest cheerleader, man.

It gets irritating. You don't even work for an ALPA carrier and YOUR airline's origins/pilots/union have a lot of skeletons to boot.

I think in your instance it would be best to go by the "Judge not lest thou be judged' concept.

SHEEESH.

The DICKHEADS on the East who voted ALPA off the property should have realized the repercusisons of alienatating a brotherhood and sisterhood of 56,000 union members who welcome you as a guest on the flight deck of their aircraft.
What "brotherhood" are you talking about?!?

He did the buy your job thing because it was in his best interest at the time.. Why should he have to wait for quality time when he could just purchase it. All other pilots be damned, he needed to get ahead now, and what is wrong with that. Then when called the reply will be.... I was young and didn't know what I was doing, or something similar.

So the same guy that depressed wages and kept professionals out of seats directly, now casts stones in the direction of pilots that have never done such a thing.

I got my last ALPA magazine in the mail and did not see any stories about their number 1 cheerleader starting a certification drive at his company. Gee must be all BS
