Ah, the dreaded hand-flown visual approach in a blistering 7 knot quartering headwind in daylight conditions with no ceiling....could have gotten any of us...there but for the grace of god....

Unless it was a repeat of Speedbird at Heathrow when ice blocked the fuel to the engines. Kind of a bummer to push up the throttles and get bupkus.

Don't be too quick to judge.

There but for the grace of god indeed. Real thoughtful of you. Don't think we know all the details yet either.

Yes, it could have been any of us. Depending upon the circumstances, this could turn out to be a success story where the pilots saved hundreds of lives.

The all knowing source of news channel 4 in LA.. just reported that 61 people are missing?? Huh... God these news people really need to stick to high speed chases...

Later they will report the sharks got em.

Can't help but think of the similarities here with the BA 777 at LHR. Landed short also, but after a longer flight and across the pole I believe. May have been different engines, but what about the fuel system?
Sad to think of the loss of life and injuries.
Two incidents with very similar outcomes would suggest that a very urgent and expedited investigation of the 777 is of utmost importance. Since the data should be readily available, hopefully this can be accomplished fairly quickly.
