If Clinton heavy (she's not light, either physically or ideologically) gets elected, the cost to people who share tax brackets with pilots for the new NHS that she wants to implement will more than offset any possible (and that should be possible with a capitol "P") economic gains as the result of her so-called "labor friendly" policies.
"Free" health care will be the most expensive government program in the history of this country.
....and for you people ready to bring this up, that includes the Iraq War.
Let's face it guys, relying on the government or a politician to improve your personal lot in life just doesn't work like it did back in the day, even for large labor organizations.
It'll never be the way it was, ever.
That's why it's incumbent upon unions to find new and inventive ways to improve worker's lots in life. Trying to move the clock back to fit your methods will never, ever be the solution to the problem.
Do I know the answer? Nope. Do I have some ideas? Yep....but NOT ONE involves trying to "stick it" to anyone else using the government as a sharp stick.
Am I bitter toward unions? You might say that I'd a little jaded at the direction that unions have taken in the last 20 years and as the result of being an AF of L-CIO member for five years.
I'm also not afraid to tell some of you guys...some of the statements made, things said, and veiled treats leveled on this board during this SkyWest ALPA drive didn't do a thing to help a lot of our opinions about you guys and your members.
Keep fighting, keep lobbying, keep THINKING, but don't waste your political capital endorsing candidates.
It'll only serve to make ALPA irrelevant.
...and I don't think any of us want to see that.
