Sorry to hear about this development... the bump to age 65 is making things pretty nasty in every area. (financials for airlines, upgrades for others, hiring for others and contention in the ranks...) Not healthy. The move to more regional jets is surprising even though it shouldn't be

The number of jets Eagle can fly is capped. These 22 are the last. In fact, there is a rumor that they are looking at ATR's to replace some of the ERJ's but those would have to be a one-for-one swap.

This furlough is directly related to Age 65. There are over 300 age 60+ pilots at AA right now. They are furloughing 175. Simple math.

Many of those working over age 60 could walk away with over $2 million in a lump sum.

TC

Instead, they are working overtime and were allowing it.
There is more to this furlough than 65ers.
I don't care what the company is saying. Make sure the PUP
payments are sustained. Show the BOD your doing something about the huge losses.

Approx what DOH will be affected? Sorry for the news.

Schwanker

It amounts to a DOH of June 2001. I say "amounts" because, unfortunately, it is impacting recalled ex TWA pilots, who, in that seniority range, are all grouped in to the June 2001 seniority group. If they furlough more and start hitting the "Natives", the next DOH affected would be May 2001.

As if the TWAers haven't been through enough already. This sucks beyond words reason or meaning. I would suspect that over 60 folks and folks picking up open time are gonna start taking some heat in the cockpits from now on.

Well Eagle is hiring and getting 22 more CRJ-700s.... is this related?

Bad news either way.....there are plenty of CFI's frothing at the mouth to get hired at AE and fly that "big" plane..... not knowing or caring where the job came from.
Again, blame the pilot and not your union or management.....It's an easy and weak way to make yourself feel better.

Are they off their freaking meds? Why put up with the BS to leave in 3 more years with a few bucks more.

Like TC said, this is directly attributable to Age 65. Do the math. Like has been said many times before, Age 65 was good for the lucky few and bad for the many.

Age 65 has been a train wreck from the beginning when it was back-doored through Congress with lighting speed. Age 65 hasn’t been good for airline safety or our careers. Those lucky few at the top won the lotto while the rest of us suffer.

It wasn’t supposed to work this way.

Thanks to ALPA and the LUV for pushing this POS through.

Good luck to all of our furloughees.
