What! Everyone knows the DA20 is the airplane that started up the company known as FedEx. The airplane that is on display with the Avcon cargo door conversion at the Smithsonian in Washington DC

but before any of that, it was a very good larger cabin Executive Jet

The old Falcon 20? With the ********************ty 731s?

there was a time when that was a state of the art jet... in the early and mid 60s.

Because an ATP in both seats would have prevented the Buffalo crash?

no, but an ATP examination process that insured people understood how flaps worked.. that they are lift devises and not drag devises... might.

Of course not, this a political response mandated by congress to address issue of public concern. By being able to say to the public we have rasied the standrads they can then get relected. This has really been driven by the families of the 3407 crash.

400 hour pilots landing FA-18's on CV's seem to understand this, time had very little to do with capability. We all know 10K+ pilots who will never make Captain.

in a moment of rarity... we agree Yip.. The problem with the FAA, and the world knows this; it's why we're the laughing stock of Cathy Pacific interviews.. as does the typical Military flight school grade know this... which is to say, anyone can memorize the ATP written and answer a few oral questions about a Seneca II and get their ATP.. No actual deep understanding of aerodynamics, systems theory, airspace (TERPS), or anything is checked.. it's frankly sad and I'm sure it's part of the grand conspiracy behind the whole "Shortage" myth which would love nothing more than to flood the labor market with bodies for "meat in the seat"

Never during the Type Rating add on course is this theory tested, and frankly I'm familiar with more than one "APD" who couldn't even tell you what "Trim Drag" is much less what actually causes induced drag..

this also feeds into the management plan to dumb down the profession and de-professionalize it enough to justify their crappy wage proposals.
