FOD is less of a problem with tail mounted engines such as on the DC-9 series airplanes (MD80 and 717s). I don't think I have ever seen a airplane with wing mounted engines do a powerback because of this (FOD).
I don't think it says anywhere that they think it is "predatory", and yes flying RJs around half full at a fare that they would still lose money on if they were 100% full is silly and unsustainable hence thier shrinkage. I can't believe anyone would loan them 20 million more to extend this...
Actually the four airlines I have worked for over the past ten years didn't complete my background checks until I had started groundschool. That includes two regionals, a LCC, and a Major. I remember the lady at the Major I worked for said one of the reasons they wait (at least for the past...
I guess I can confirm some of what USNFDX said. I have a friend who flies for FEDEX. He went to an ACP a couple weeks ago. He said that FEDEX will look at furloughees on a case by case basis, but this is not a floodgate for furloughed guys though. You will need to have some strong points as to...
You have the fortunate position of having three years of devastating airline finacials to help everyone realize this. I didn't. I was hired by a major in July 2001 and finished IOE on the morning of September 11th. I was furloughed October 1st. I had less than three weeks from the 11th to...
You won't be crawling back, you will be saving your job. Take it from me it will be much better than lining up at the unemployment office with the dregs of society begging for you weekly stipend. This " I would rather stand alone and fail" attitude works fine until you are actually out of a job...
Independence Air in Airbus default
Jeff Clabaugh
Staff Reporter
Independence Air, looking for ways to improve its cash position after reporting an $82 million loss last quarter, is in default on its Airbus purchase agreement.
Parent company FLYi says it has not made $8.7 million in payments...
I don't think AirTran will take any ATA airplanes like Heavy set said. AirTran has a bunch of the 737-700s on order and can slowly grow into the Chicago market. They now have a place to put all those airplanes. AirTran will probably want to be conservative and digest this purchase especially in...
I actually was "hired" also at the last open house after this post died. Even though I was hired I knew walking out of that conference room it would never fly. Padre seemed to me to be manic and loved the attention he was getting from all these pilots, plus all the info he was giving was no...
Dointime,
Your kidding right? Memphis is soooo much better. If anyone had the opportunity to improve their situation and career but don't because of the fact Atlanta is where AirTran's hub is located really deserve to spend their career at a third rate regional airline.
sf3boy,
If you feel that it is Ok to have a seniority list posted on the internet, then please cut and paste the Mesaba seniority on this forum from mymesaba.com. I sure would like to see how many of my old pals are still at Mesaba.
You don't even have to go as far as Shelby Forest. Try the north end of Mud Island which is basically downtown. There is a very nice boat ramp and parking area there. That is where I put in my duck boat when I go a couple miles upstream to duck hunt.
In the US? The Answer is no, there is not an airline that has the international presence that Pan Am did. The only foreign airlines that I can think of that hires Americans that has close to the same international prescence is Cathay Pacific and Emirates. And I am not so sure they fit the...
Bi,
You gotta play to win. I think anybody that is furloughed that wants to work for FEDEX should apply no matter what FEDEX's policy is. If say in six months they change the policy to allow furloughed guys to interview then you are in the system, but if the window is closed then you are out...
It would be nice if FEDEX reserved their judgement of furloughees until they look at each individual case during an interview. It seems this is a rigid unwavering rule with no exceptions (except US Airways). Some had virtually no seniority at their respective Big 3 airline when furloughed so...
