So far I've flown 3 different types powered by a 4-stroke Rotax, and 2 of them don't have carb heat. And the one that does, the manual said there's no need to use it in normal ops.
So what's so different about them from the carbs on 'traditional' engines that they're not even equipped with carb...
Anything out of the ordinary I should watch out for on that plane? Any links to an online manual? I'm getting a proper checkout, but I'd like to be prepared ahead of time.
"Speed and Angels is the true life story and feature-length action documentary about two navy officers chasing their dreams to become fighter pilots. The film follows them during the most dangerous parts of their training and as they go to war, where the realities of being a fighter pilot test...
So after the 15th time reading through this jumbled mess, I think I'm finally starting to make sense of it. So let me summarize it here and please tell me if I have it straight.
There are 3 possible sets of distances from the origina airport for a student solo X/C: Under 25 miles, between 25...

Did anyone see this? It was amazing (and touching) story. This Danish artist (who I must say, is probably a bit off kilter) who was inspired by female cargo pilots in WWII, set off on a trip from Denmark to Kabul in her Piper Colt to give...
So we all know that all vectors are headings, and not courses, so you just let ATC worry about the wind correction.
Now... it seems that in the experimental community, there is a trend toward solid state digital equipment that displays your course, not heading, which would make it impossible to...

So I just stumbled on this today, and read all about it. Basically, it's a kit to convert most Lycoming 360/540 series to liquid cooled, and comes with cylinders, pump, radior, and all...
Well, anyone here going? Now that some other teams are finally starting to arrive (we were almost starting to feel lonely... almost) and the competition draws nearer, I'm getting excited since it's my first time and wanna see what all the buzz is all about. We here are having a ton of fun...
I was looking at pictures of Russian acro types, and found this Su-31 cockpit on A.net. See those stick-on markings with the decreasing numbers on the tach? What in the hell are they? I've been racking my brain over it, and the best I could come up is that it's TBO... heheh. If you want more...
Well that was a fun weekend in Delano, CA. 7.0 hours and $630 later, I return with a 1st place in the Primary category. Good thing there was at least one other competitor, or that competition would have been a lot like my sex life. While I only had to beat one guy (in a Christen Eagle, with my...
So today I had my 5th or so acro lesson, and at the end, when we were about to head home, I asked my CFI if I could fly a steep spiral and pull and sustain max G to see if I could grey or black out. It's just something that I had never experienced, and was really curious about. So he said sure...
Well, as of today, I am officially a hundred-hour wonderboy.
Also, I'm now technically a warbird pilot ;)
I came in to drill some holes in one of our Citabrias, but on a whim decided to get checked out in our Taylorcraft L-2. Afer 20-some-odd hours in the Citabrias I could definitely feel how...
My friend was wondering about what "for hire" means with regard to the landing light requirement, and more specifically, if renting a plane meant "for hire." I personally think it doesn't apply, since it says "if the aircraft is operated for hire," and that seems to mean what you're using the...
My real-life lesson from this Sunday
Well, I and a couple of other planes went down for a flyi-in/$100 hamurger. It was really hazy, but more than good enough to fly. So we did. My (and everyone else's) biggest mistake in planning was to waste time before we LEFT till it got really late, let...
Well.... not on THE Vomit Comet, but on this company's 727, for $3000 a ride. Includes 15 parabolas, with the weightless periods lasting about 30 seconds.
(Located in Florida)
Aah, chalk another one up on the list of crazy flying stuff that I won't be able to afford in another couple...
