To NW_Pilot:
For what it is worth, we all probably thought we'd be up for this sort of thing when we had 700 hours.
I've got just over 2,300 hours, including over 100 hours of King Air time, and 130 hours of over water time, and I wouldn't even think of trying it unless I brought along an...
I worked for Monarch in ADS for 6 months a few years ago. Good owners, nice place. They have a large fleet of nearly new airplanes, and lots of networking options at the airport. Everyone who was working there with me now has a regular flying job, so it is a good starting point.
Downsides...
There are options other than teaching, and if you don't want to teach, then please don't.
That being said, while I wasn't sure that I wanted to, I'm glad I did. Made me a much better pilot, much more aware of what is going on with the aircraft.
Almost 1,500 hours of teaching later, I'm glad...
If you're instrument rated in airplanes, you do not need to take another written test.
In addition, you are only required to have 15 hours of dual instrument time in helicopters to go for the checkride, which should be enough, if you're already current in airplanes.
Also, you need a cross...
I'd follow that up with, "what is your career worth?"
I had a friend who has hired a lot of people in a large company HR department help me write mine, so sometimes you just need to ask around your circle of friends, someone may well be able to help.
Perhaps he got to fly a King Air 90 with the owner, and the owner stuck him in the left seat and let him fly it. Since he is rated in catagory, class, and type if required (which it isn't), then he can log PIC time for all the time he is flying the airplane. Insurance requires the owner to be...
Sure, every private pilot needs 3 hours of instrument training. Most of the time that is done with a hood on, but I always tried to get that time done in actual IMC.
Of course, there are limits to the weather I'd do this in, and 200 and 1/2 are below them. 400 and 1 are probably the lowest...
What does AA expect? When you cut employee pay to the bone, treat your employees like crap, and cancel their retirements, they aren't going to be very happy.
Since every airline offers the same basic service, flying seats from one place to another in a metal tube, customer service is one...
Yes, there is, but I don't know of any civilian helos that are such.
The Russian Mi-24 HIND is pressurized and has a service ceiling of 25,000ft. The primary reason it is pressurized however is to give it NBC protection, and it has a low 2.4 psi differental.
Truer words have never been spoken... It is too easy to become an airline pilot, which is why airline pilots are paid what they are...
It is basic Econ 101, supply and demand. Everything else is just noise and details...
You can't pick or change instructors? I'd vote with my dollars then, if there were issues...
Regardless of the skill level of a CFI, some people just work better together than others... If it isn't working, a change is called for.
I agree that it is frustrating to have this pulled from under your legs, but then money you do not control is not really yours yet.
A very seperate issue from pensions. The company he worked for went belly-up, it happens...
Well then he should be ok, 3 decades is a long time to be putting...
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that one of the main problems is that the market wasn't quite big enough to support both airplanes (and the 747 was big enough over those two to make its own market), which is why in the end their companies ended up giving the commercial...
A total ban only helps if you're really prepared to shoot down a 150. Otherwise it accomplishes nothing other than to suspend the tickets of those pilots stupid enough to fly through it.
As others have said, "what is your hearing worth?"
True, you can buy headsets for 1/3 the price that do almost as good a job, but nothing I've found compares to the comfort, quality, and effectiveness of the Bose headset.
After sitting in a cockpit for 13.2 hours in a single day, I can attest...
Actually, I think the rules over in Europe are too strict... Honestly flying isn't that hard, so why make it tougher than it needs to be...
Unless of course you think the rules should be retroactive, and you would have to go back through the courses, take the tests, etc. as if you were a new...
