They were going to park them, but years from now due to contracts that didn't have to be broken. Now, DL gets rid of them for sure, and it facilitated a 717 purchase that wouldn't have happened because there would have been too many seats had the 50 seaters remained for 3+ more years. It worked out well, and the larger RJs will just fill in for the smaller ones, but a lot less total RJs, which is what mainline, management, and passengers wanted. Then throw in a better ratio for mainline pilots, and tighter INTL scope too.

You guys at UAL have the same problem, wih more than 50% of your domestic flying done by UAL Express. But, you have plenty of 70 (66)seaters, which are essentially a 76 seater with a few less first class seats. The CAL side only allowed 50 seaters, the most uneconomical RJ out there, plus unlimited large props. (terrible economic strategy btw) Don't blame us for that, you guys have your own problems caused by your complete collapse after 9-11. The problem you have now is you have no "100" seater, and DL has 88 717s coming in to take markets away from 76 seaters who will be filling in for 70 seaters, which will be filling in for over 200 50 seaters leaving. You have no plan, and instead blame others for your own problems. While you're at it, make up nice with your CAL brothers and get that SLI done. Can't wait for you to blame us for that, too. Enjoy relative seniority. Bye now.

OUCH!
Jenny Lee nails it, spot on:)

Yep the ALPA koolaid runs thick in this hypocrite. Your CEO is a bright guy. The glaring economic problems of the 50 seaters would have been dealt with despite regional contracts. Richard Anderson has far better lawyers then Uncle Jerry, but RA figured it would be easier to get the pilots to do his work for him. Your DTW rep was smart enough to see the forest through the trees, but he was unfortunately shouting in the crowd.

So bottom line you are claiming scope is stronger because management gets more of the airframes they want in exchange for parking the ones they don't want? Well that definitely shows what we all know; management is way ahead of the idiots on the line. Ratios and total number of airframes doesn't matter so much anymore given that economic factors are the prime drivers of the RJ demise. Solidifying that 90 seaters belong at the regionals through a non concessionary contract does!

In the past you have been able to hang your scope issues on the harsh business reality of the noughties. In this case a large pilot group at a profitable mega carrier just allowed management to obtain the large RJ's for contractual improvements. Sounds like the 90's all over again!

In other words scope was for sale and the 90 seat airframe clearly belongs at the regional level. No abritrator will ever let another mainline pilot group try to claim differently. Your management waved the 717 lure as the final kicker to get ALPA to run out the brainwash. As for the codeshare protection, trust me everyone's management team will systematically poke holes in that in the years ahead through the alliances.

First off hypocrite I'm a Cal guy and despite your delusions our MEC's aren't at each others throats. I chuckle how you make the TP scope such a huge issue, but Republic operates a whopping 32 of them. Compared to Lee Moak's scope style, I'm fairly confident the large TP problem has created far less of the career black holes that plague the regional level.

Jeff Sismek sent all of us the happiest note the day that DAL TA was released in which he pledged to honor the new precedents DAL was setting. How ironic? See our 'plan' was to at the very least not allow anymore large rj's on property unless they were flown by legacy pilots. Most importantly this would have set clearly that the 90-120 seat size is not even up for discussion. It also encourages management to find a long term solution to the RJ in the 90+ seat sized market and not from a Boeing model out of production since 2006. I recall many DAL pilots agreeing with me that 'our' plan was a priority for all legacy pilots.

Now it appears that Unical is on the cusp of getting your wonderful scope branded on us by Mother ALPA. Our leaders will give the sales pitch that yours did and I bet 60%+ of us will bite. I also have no doubt that Jeffery will find the airframes he needs to compete against your mighty 717's somehow. In the end Jeff's gonna be as happy RA was when he gets signed off permission to park 50's for 90 seat airframes.

All the while management will rub their hands and wait for another opportunity to raise the scope bar for bigger airframes. I had faith that after last decade legacy guys would finally see clearly this perpetual cancer. Guys like you falling for the first ALPA sales job destroyed that.

Wow, you're a CAL guy, that's great. Thanks for all of the help with your FANTASTIC work rules that haven't helped anyone in years. Your pay isn't great, and you had no insurance for your new guys for the first 6 months. You guys couldn't lead anyone out of a paper bag..

The large TPs didn't create black holes? How about your 737-500s in EWR? Where did they go? Many were parked and then sold to Russian airlines. After the Colgan DH8-400s showed up, many went away. The big dashes started taking over multiple short haul routes out of EWR, and then they started doing the same out of CLE and eventually IAH. You have far fewer 735s now than you did before the large TPs. Admit it! 32 Dashes meant 32 fewer 735s.

And your scope was so good that Jeff figured out to just put "United Express" bigger RJs through IAH, CLE, and EWR, and flew past it.(CAL Scope) Those planes didn't say "Continental Express", they said "United Express." Jeff has been steam rolling you the whole time, and of course you blame ALPA........you need to re-read your stuff before you sign the dotted line! But, you will still blame DL and ALPA, even though your own shortsightedness has brought larger RJs to EWR. Get that? YOUR OWN.

So, how did that "plan" of yours work, trying to force Boeing or someone else to get you a 100 seater? Anyone come up with one? Did you try the C-Series? You could have ordered that one? How about the E190? Your management didn't want it. They still don't it appears. Do you really think the "90" seater is a "90 seater"? It may have a frame that big, but it is limited to 76 seats, with a first class section. That's 10 more seats than your 66 seater, which is really a 70 seater. The 717 carries a lot more than that, and is a lot newer than many planes out there. It will add jobs and go back to cities currently flown by CR9s and E175s, which will now cover old 50 seat routes. You only WISH you could have come up with a plan like that. Instead, you are left without any suitable 100 seater for the next few years, and that means your RJs will continue to fly those routes, competing against DL 717s on many.

And in the end, you are stuck with even more money losing 50 seaters than the rest of us, and you're happy with that! That is crazy. You have more props(Don't forget the SKW props in SFO/LAX/SEA) and 50 seaters than anyone else. Congrats. I wonder who you will blame.....????

Ok. Admittedly I just woke up, but why is GL bashing Continental pilots on the Regional thread?

You really need to get back on those meds that evened you out.

Maybe because a CAL guy was bashing DAL pilots on a regional thread?
