I have TWO bid sheets...

The first one with 30 something preferences of fancy stuff that i want. The second one only has "Allow single days off", "Select all pairings before Reserve line etc"

And it STILL couldn't build me a line!!! WTFFFFFFFFFFFFF

So it dumps me back to reserve...and awards 7 guys junior to me a line.

Somebody please tell me how the FORK this is fair? I'm so close to throwing my monitor out the damn window. :angryfire

Second bid sheet

Preference 8)
Select : Al l pairings before Reserve Line R706 , R707 , R709 , R710 , R708 , R701
32 Awarded to Senior Bidder
7 Available
1 Lines Awarded to Senior Bidder
6 Lines Available

Does this mean I should have held a line?? Lots of open time and three people junior to me held lines, although they all had vacation.

I got an extra 4 day with vacation?? I thought all you needed was 2 4 days and 65 hours??

65 hours is all you need, but you have to bid very carefully so that once you have those 2 4-days, every remaining pairing on the bid sheet conflicts and can't be awarded. The bottom of the credit window is 65, but the system is still trying to get you to 75 hours. If it tries all pairings on a bid sheet and still can't get to 75, but is above 65, then the schedule is complete. If there is any way to fit 3 4-days based on what you bid, it'll find it. If "All remaining pairings" is on the bid sheet you'll be screwed, so you need at least 2 bid sheets to keep that off the first one.

My strategy: bid 4-days trips based on specific start dates only, say Aug 2nd and 9th for example. If I don't think that'll be enough options, I'd then bid trips starting one day forward (3rd, 10th) or backward (1st, 8th). That gives me many pairings on the bid sheet, but once one is awarded in each week the remaining trips can't be awarded because they overlap. Copy bid sheet to get "all remaining pairings" off the first one and possibly use bid sheet 2 for an alternate bid strategy. YMMV.

It's all about understanding the system....Kinda like income taxes....Learn the system or suffer the consequences...

Sounds like you are on the bubble of holding a line and reserve. Juniority can be a serious problem in any bidding system. There is probably more to your story.
