Since you had no growth planned for 2011 prior to September 27th, tell them to thank AirTran.

Someones not happy joining the LUV family. ;)

Don't forget to tell all your buddy's at AT to thank SWA for job security and a company that has never furlough. Oh by the way isn't the 51 firm orders at AT, for the next ten years. So I think SWA hard earned cash and MGT that will allow you to exercise those options quicker.

Oh brother...... they used to say that at PAN-AM too

KP, the swa management had said those new hires were planned prior to this acquisition, due to extra vacations and 3 new cities opening soon. SWA may not have been growing, but we have just been through the worst recession on record since the 30s. SWA has been gently laying the groundwork for growth by trimming back their schedule and adding 9 new cities, enabling additional flights from established markets when the demand picks back up. Hawaii is on the cards as is north and south of the border, and that has NOTHING to do with buying you guys. Do you really think you guys are that strong that swa needed you to grow? Obviously aai brings significant opportunities to swa via atl and increased presence in other markets, but cmon KP; you've just been acquired by the strongest, most respected airline in the country and you're trying to talk yourselves up as even partners. I guess it's like a boxer talking before a big fight that he knows he's got no chance of winning.

You can only stay champ for so long. Everyone gets knocked down eventually.

I really have a hard time understanding why anyone who was being bought by Southwest would be upset. Even if you were displaced to the right seat, on SW payrates wouldn't you make nearly as much as the left seat at AT? The contract they have is light years ahead of most these days, not to mention they actually RESPECT and APPRECIATE their employees. My company hates us. It's like a continuous game of who can get the most from the other. I like to think I'm winning (but I'm not)!

That’s because he isn’t that bright. He can’t see the forest for the trees. Yes, even in the right seat he will make more then he does now. Work less and have better benefits. All this has been hashed out to many times including his responses about growth, just like I have pointed out numerous times with their CEO saying the same thing. Sad he is already wishing ill on a company he hasn’t even worked for yet, one that will treat him 1000 times better then his current employer. Pathetic!

Me pointing out the arrogance of a few of your pilots in this industry is not wishing ill will. Someone as, "bright" as you should understand the distinction.

Again, some of you seem to think you know what's best for us and how we should do this and that and how it will all be sunshine and rainbows as long as we bend over and smile. I simply need to look at your treatment of F9 as a warning. Again, I will trust, but verify.

I like your non-koolaid drinking attitude, it is refreshing and quit liberating.

However, please do not look at F9 as an example, we were "jacked" by our own people, contrary to what they tell you.

KP, you will be fine. SWA is a great company. The employees are proud of their company too. Sometimes it seems like they are arrogant but in reality, they are proud of what they have.

Enjoy the new success.

KP,
Do really think F9 was actually going to happen? If I remember correctly, they had less than 5 hours to hash out an agreement...no sh!t! It was more of a game being played by both F9 and SWA. The pilots took the hit for the supposed failure. Also, why do you think SWA hasn't grown the last few years? Could it be they were waiting to seriously make a play for AAI and to purchase growth at ATL? This didn't happen overnight...I'm guessing the rumors were true which started several years back about SWA buying AAI. Hence an actual legitimate plan and purchase as opposed to the F9 deal. You notice SWA didn't let the pilots stop the buyout this time...don't you?

Noway DOLCE say it isnt true. You SWA may have planned this for a couple of years in order to save up the cash and right size their operation to purchase Airtran. Cant be. SWA should have just kept growing (like they could have), instead of being so forward thinking. Sarcasm!

Exactly...but the arbitrators will solve our SLI and we didn't bring anything to this purchase except the cash!

Hey KP. I just got back from the party. The 188 new hires that are starting to arrive were NOT RELATED to AirTran. That is directly from the top, told to us about 1.5 hours ago at the hotel here in DAL. Growth due to 3-new cities in 2011.

We had the mins, we got the call, we passed the interview (two of them in case you wondered since we sat so long) and all of us got our 737-type rating back in 08.

So say whatever you will...SOME of you are lucky. ALL of US are fortunate to be joining this company.

Hope you studied for the systems test they give tomorrow morning!!

Welcome guys. Sorry I missed the party. Did everyone welcome you to Oakland? Remember, don't leave your room after dark.

All I remember about day 1 was one of the flight ops head honchos saying, "Wow, yall look like you all had fun last night."

Welcome aboard!!

What was the demographics of the class? Military, commuter, corporate, etc. Just curious what the mix was like. Any AirTran guys?
