The Mil vs Civ thing is a false debate.. it's all supply and demand.. There are times (such as in the build up post-9/11), wars, build ups that the military has a lot of need for pilots and the requirements aren't as strict, othertimes during drawdowns and budget cuts, you'd need to be top of your class or graduate of an academy to get a flying slot.. Just as with the regular pilot job market... supply dictates the caliber of the individual selected.. and then there is the whole female thing... there is a double standard and what women are required to bring to the table is short of what a man is.

All else being equal, I'd say military pilots are better vetted but not necessarily better pilots... anyone who's flown long enough knows that.

Anyone notice that those who claim little to no distinction between civilian and military training/exprerience do so with zero military background?

I've flown with really good, ex-mil pilots. I've flown with god-awful, I can't believe you hold a license ex-mil pilots.

I've flown with really good, civilian only pilots. I've flown with god-awful, I can't believe you hold a license civilian only pilots.

See the difference? Some pilots do really well, no matter what they're flying. Some suck, no matter what they're flying.

The end.

WTFO!! Are you encouraging sex changes now just to fit into the bottom 2-3% of a white male dominated profession. You my idiot, fall in the top 98 percentile of that group!

As of 2006, just over 6% of certified civilian pilots (both private and commercial) in the U.S. were women.

The percentage of women airline pilots is about 5% worldwide

As of June 2004, United has the most women pilots, a total of 513 on a seniority list totaling over 8800 pilots.

Do the math or just get your sex change done. Your choice!

Of course United has more women and minorities than anyone else. They went on crazy hiring rampages for XX chromosomes and minority (colored) people, while more qualified white people were ignored. Just read online about near accidents by these underqualified quota hire-ees.

It's pathetic what this industry has boiled down to.

I read that the number of women professional pilots employed by the major airlines is more than 4:1 disproportionate to the general population of pilots qualified for those jobs.. I believe I read that on the 99's website a while back but I can't for the life of me find it now.. even if it were 1/2 that.. at 2:1.. that would imply a problem in hiring practices. The social engineers would love a world where 1/2 the pilots were women... the other day, the news did a story about how woman are now earning $.83 on ever $1.00 a man earns and lamented in how this must be made more "Fair" no matter what the costs!!

The thing that people don't want to face or understand is that there is always going to be a percentage of women who "choose" to remain at home with their kids.. so that will never be a $1.00/$1.00 ratio unless the social engineers get their way and legislate it with more government regulations and AA programs..

It's not pathetic what the industry has come to... it's pathetic what the world has come to! I wish I was born 100 years ago!

few years back a major airline didn't even bother to call me for an interview because of my 2 years of college (instead of 4).At the time my PIC turbine was about 1000 hrs with an excellent record (no failed check rides under part 121 and no violations). On the contrary they hired a girl from the same company with a DWI on her records and no PIC turbine time. Go figure!

“Why do Asian women prefer white men? Seriously… why?”

The Harvard MBA says:

Ah yes, this is an oft-observed but seldom-analyzed phenomenon! The key is to focus on a market-driven analysis. The inevitable conclusion is that Asian women prefer white men because white men prefer Asian women.

The concept of market segmentation is both basic and powerful. Businesses succeed by identifying the market segments with the greatest willingness to pay, and then catering to them. There’s no value judgment involved–if young people want to watch trashy reality television, let there be “The Hills”!

In the case of Asian women, over the past several decades, they discovered an important fact: Most white guys have an Asian fetish. Heck, pretty much all (non-Asian) American males do. For example, take the Outkast song “Hey Ya“. In it, the African-American recording artists sing, “Now all Beyonces, and Lucy Lius, and baby dolls, get on the floor,” implying an equivalent level of attractiveness between Beyonce and Lucy Liu. I consider myself an connoisseur of female beauty, and I can tell you that Lucy Liu would not be considered hot if she weren’t Asian. Beyonce is way hotter than Lucy Liu (though neither can hold a candle to Jessica Alba or Megan Fox).

Lest you think this is a unique phenomenon, let me point out that many white girls have similar fetishes for British, French, Spanish, and Italian accents (This is most entertainingly demonstrated in “Love Actually“, where a British loser decides to travel to America, where all the women love English accents; he ends up in Milwaukee, and within a few hours, is engaged in group sex with three American girls, including Elisha Cuthbert. See also, “Banderas, Antonio”.)

These fetishes represent a market inefficiency; the British loser in “Love Actually” would have no chance at bedding a single attractive woman in his native England, let alone three. Thanks to the White Guy Asian Fetish (”WGAF”), even unattractive Asian women have a chance to score a significant other or mate.

And remember, race isn’t even the only factor. The millieu also matters. One of my friends once taught Economics at UC Berkeley; he told me about the time he heard two Asian undergrads in his class talking about their frustration with the Asian chicks who went the Berkeley. What really offended them wasn’t the exploitation of the WGAF, but rather that the Asian chicks at Berkeley weren’t even that hot, because “all the really hot ones went to UCLA.”

Put yourself in the typtical Asian woman’s shoes. Let’s say that you have your choice of two guys. The first guy is average-looking, of average intelligence, and has an average career. The second guy is good-looking, smart, and has a good career. Which one are you going to choose? If the only difference is that Guy #1 is Asian and Guy #2 is white, my guess is you’re choosing Guy#2. That’s not racism, that’s smart market segmentation.

P.S. The logical follow-up question is, what should I do if I’m an Asian guy? My advice: Try to exploit market inefficiencies and go for chicks who dig martial arts movies. Do you think Jackie Chan or Jet Li ever lacks for babes?

Hey, I want a cookie! I reversed that for ya.

This thread has been helpful in that I have been able to add 3 twunts to my ignint list (ignore). Hint - 1/3 of 'em are right above this very post.

They call them "the class of '89' " after getting sued and changing their standards back then. Pretty "diverse" group I'm told ... and pretty scary.

It's not that I don't think women can fly, or that I am jealous that they get preferential treatment during the job selection process. What I don't care for is that women don't just say "thank you," and move on with it. They want to be equal, yet they celebrate their inequality. Women have some wierd fixation about having an "all female crew," or when passengers have some wierd reaction about getting on an airplane. (News flash, they have this reaction regardless of your sex) No Captain Vag, the woman isn't afraid of you flying the plane, she just has a problem getting on a EMB-110, so don't get your panties in a twist over it. Here's an article I came across, it has military attitudes, women's attitudes, et al. Enjoy! :) http://www.indianapoliswoman.com/covergallery/99/aug.asp
