The pilots and flight engineers of Amerijet, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 769, have not yet contacted ALPA for support in the strike.

Why didn't the IBT contact ALPA? It seems like a basic first step.

Any support from ALPA National will only be in the form of vague press releases. Nothing of substance. The real support will be from individual ALPA councils and pilots. Prater will do nothing more than try to save face in the public view. I believe the letter demanded is just an excuse and is not done by ALPA itself when they have a strike. Many other unions just came when the Teamsters announcement came out. APA, SWAP, individual ALPA councils to name a few.

This ALPA National angst is mostly over Atlas decertification of ALPA and move to Teamsters. The Atlas crews choice was sue for Duty of Fair representation or decertify ALPA over lack of representation in a long ongoing merger and catering only to one group. Atlas chose decertification since it was cheaper and quicker. Prater considered this poaching on his turf (about 800 guys) by the Teamsters and Airline Director Dave Bourne in particular. It wasn't though, it was Prater not taking care of things and not keeping promises to the Atlas council. Prater needs to get over himself and get back to being a trade unionist.

Enough of the blame game now. Go down and walk the picket line and/or put some money in the strike fund kitty. In the end, we are all individually "the union" whether it's name is Teamsters, ALPA, APA, or others.

At this stage of the game, the Individule with their support is more powerful than the Group with their platitudes. These grudges are child like and serve no one.

All of us at the the grass root level have to support AJT pilots.

The support from pilots across the country has been tremendous. Management is expecting these poor guys to cave in when they don't get paychecks tomorrow. They are tougher than that; but $100 bucks a week strike pay won't go far.

A PayPal account has been set up for contributions. ALL the money will go to the crewmembers. Please add your support in any way you can. 60 pilots and flight engineers are standing up to management for all of us.

Any amount would really be appreciated. And it will make it clear to a ****ant management that regardless of the size of the carrier, pilots stand together.

What National really needs to do is help with the media dept. They could go to Miami and put together some video that might present the cause in a more professional light. Two youtube videos that are out there are weak at best.
I asked my wife to watch them just to get her reaction and she asked why they did not interview the more professional looking pilots that were walking behind the folks being interviewed. I did not tell her that they were from other airlines.
I then asked my neighbor to watch them and her reaction to the one was startling, after seeing the one pilot talk for awhile she was initially taken with the cause but then after the little guy in the ball cap started talking she reacted with a who cares attitude.
Image is everything at this stage, because first impressions go a long way.
Sooooo once again how about ALPA national getting the media folks down there to show some support.

You know guys, I don't want to change the topic of this thread and maybe a new thread needs to be started, but c'mon. These guys are TEAMSTERS- not ALPA. Any issues they are having is a problem the TEAMSTERS should be handling, not ALPA National. I mean these guys voted in the TEAMSTERS, a big huge union with enough resources to help these guys as necessary and ALPA National is getting criticized because they're not "helping out enough?" Is anyone criticizing the Virgin America pilots? What are they doing? How about the Skywest pilots? How about the Allegiant pilots? Don't get me wrong, as ALPA members we should be supporting the Amerijet guys, but it just shows how deep the anti-ALPA sentiment is on this forum when the TEAMSTERS are on strike and ALPA NATIONAL gets the criticism.

If you're an ALPA guy and you want to help out, get your council to put something together. You don't need to wait for ALPA National, or for the Teamsters to ask ALPA National or whatever. Pick up the phone and call your reps, go to a union meeting and pass a resolution, get some $$ together with your buds, whatever. But any lack of support these Amerijet pilots are getting or not getting ultimately rests with the TEAMSTERS not ALPA NATIONAL.

Well I didn't see Bourne seek support of MEC's or ALPA ahead of the strike. Has he acknowledged the support of any ALPA carriers that has been given? Seems that only non ALPA carries get acknowledged. We had people walking the line along with other ALPA carriers. It goes both ways.
