So if I'm Jerry, and I know that I need to merge my two airlines, but gosh, I really don't want any unions {I'm Morman after all} and my guys have voted one down three times! What do I do? Well, I can shrink the airline with the union, and destroy their gumption, all the while awarding my non-union morman brothers in Christ! Now when I merge the two together I'll have 3000 happy non-union pilots against 1000 unhappy union pilots! Now I don't have to worry about that pesky union any more.

Are yall finally starting to see the picture a little clearer? .
Not going to happen. If it were, it would already have been done. There are MANY of us who'd have "transfered" to SkyW long ago if only we'd have been offered the opportunity to make the move at the same relative seniority.

All Jerry has to do is make the offer and then transfer the associated number of aircraft to SkyW. Say, all 700's & 900's and TADA! He's got the planes that are NOT going to be phased out PLUS the part of the pilot group that wants to free themselves from the debacle that has become alpa....one big happy family. Hell, alpa is threatening to FIRE a bunch of us for THEIR screwup anyway (I didn't get one of the threat letters from MY union "brothers"...I made sure to pay my EXTORTION payments).

Lets see, what would be the down side....

17 bases vs. 1 (sure would hate to be able to live someplace other than ATL)
multiple carrier flying
same pay for flying 700&900 (oops! already do that)
"growth" vs. furlough (hmm)
PBS (oops! gonna get it anyway)
Single management (save $$)
etc....etc.....etc....

Ohplease....I think you might be onto something here...

What if hundreds of ASA pilots petitioned Skywest management to transfer ASA airplanes to Skywest so that we could come over to the Skywest side and shed ourselves of ALPA....Wouldn't that cause a stir....

show me a negative....

oh yeah, I forgot to add this to my "negatives list": NOT paying 2% extortion (protection) payments.

and HEY! here's a real positive for alpa: they don't have to give us more than we pay in...what a relief for them. No more blood suckers drawing off the "public" tit.

See, we can have a win-win here.

actually, there may be another upside to this scenario.... ASA's public perception has historically been pretty dismal. Maybe a fresh veneer (SkyW) would give us a better public appeal to go along with our significantly better performance of late....ala Valujet/Airtran

There is still an operational need for separate certificates. It does appear this may be in the process of being diminished. Along with separate certificates comes independent scheduling, operations, etc. I would believe there is a plan to generate some continuity here along with the training which would be a large cost to standardize. This may be a large stumbling block to overcome at this time with the amount of money invested in ASA to bring it up to par operationally.

there still would be seperate certs. all the ALPA folks could stay at ASA and all those in faver of joining Sky West could go over. that would leave it much as it is now only better.

Do you believe in Santa Claus, Fair tales, and the Easter Bunny?

They may bring you over, but after an interview, and then you would be on the bottom of the list.

actually I do. are you trying to say they don't exist?

Now there's a great come back argument....

I'm guessing you have the inside knowledge to be sure it would take an "interview" and put you at the bottom......my man! I wish I was half a smart as you alpa guys.
