I knew someone that quit just a few months ago. Been there I think just past a year and moved on.

Look guys, I know the 65 change is an emotional topic. I myself, like many others are being affected by it. This law change did not happen because a bunch of guys coming up on 60 wanted to take junior pilot jobs. This happened as a result of our government and the FAA bringing our retirement age in line with ICAO.

Bull&^%@. It would not have happened had the pro age 65 guys not caused a stink. Thus the name of the law that allowed it. These guys are selfish, whining, arrogant self serving pricks and should be treated as such.

Oh that makes sense. NOT! The age 65 guys are a minority. This rule change came about because the politicians and the FAA decided to join the rest of the world and make 65 the new retirement age. And to say all the pro age 65 guys are selfish, whining, arrogant self serving pricks just shows how immature some of you are.

America is a democracy last time I checked. This wasn't a vote that was exclusive to pilots. It was voted in by elected representatives. That's the way it works here. It is law. It is not going to change. Age 65 is here to stay. You want to take it out on the 60+ captain that your flying with? Fine. Be an a$$. See how far that gets ya...

They have a "right" to be here? Really? There is a "right" to be an airline pilot? Please. They knew the rules when they started the game, and those rules were just fine with them when it meant they moved up the ladder. But when their time came, all of a sudden it wasn't fair. As far as money goes, that is what it was all about in the first place. And they had however long to save and plan, and they didn't. That is not my fault. These guys who proposed and supported age 65 also worked during the most lucrative time in aviation history. Most were hired at way lower total times and age then most pilots today, therefore giving them plenty of time to save for retirement. The poor decissions and choices of a few should not dictate the outcome of future generations to come, but unfortunately it has. The pilots today will never have the opportunities these pilots had, and all of this was taken away while the ever redundant, ineffective, and obsolete battle cry of "Unity and Brotherhood" was coming from these self serving few.

I'm sorry all of this happened to you guys, but I hear everyday, "you made the choice to be a pilot." Well....

Every decission that has been made on airline contracts over the past decade has all been to protect the upper ten percent of seniority lists. The rest have been terminated, furloughed, pushed back, downgraded, flow back.......but you guys kept your seats.

Anytime one of the post age 60 guys cries "Unity, Brotherhood" Look him in the eyes and tell him "Go F... himself, nevermind you won't have to, he already knows what he did was wrong, and selfish.

Well that being said, What "we" all planned for was then the norm also, but it was taken away by our own "brothers." Changing the law is their fault and their actions will force us all to pay. Retiring with dignity in this industry shouldn't even be a factor, because guess what,? you won't. It will never be the same, all of the dignity has been given away over the past decade.

And what makes you think "we" have no "financial reasons?" We aren't getting any younger, and it isn't easy to put anything away for savings while on furlough. To top it off the greedy bastards who missed the cutoff date want to come back. Should we just suck it up and let them come back for financial reasons?

Your disgust at what?? get real. Do you really think there was a chance of the retirement staying at 60. The FAA was faced with the obvious conflict of saying no over 60 here in USA but it's OK for the foriegn carriers to fly over with their over 60 pilots. There is globilization going on. ICAO is becoming more of the norm. Did you get your english proficiency certificate, an ICAO standard.

Before you assume I am over 60 I am not I am 46 and have had my career stagnate along with everyone else. I have also had the privilage of flying for and with EAL pilots many of whom came over to UAL with me. The older ones needed 65 to survive. (no they are not all on their 2nd or 3rd wives) This goverment felt it was OK to allow airlines to strip their pensions.( while they keep theirs, but that's a different subject) There was no choice but to raise the age and it was the right thing to do.

If a newhire gets furloughed after 6 months and then gets called back 6 months later will he/she come back to 1st or 2nd year pay?

The XJT MEC doesn't have a spot on the Executive Council. You're referring to the Executive Board, and Chris Lynch isn't a member of that body. NWA's Ray Miller was the only member of the EC to vote against Prater's age 65 abomination.

There was no longevity accrual for pay on the last furlough at CAL (nor for the flowbacks, for that matter). There was at DAL and most others from what I understand, but since it is a contractual issue, and CAL has the weakest contract, it isn't there. The union indicated they might get it into the last contract to get it back, but it never materialized and the new admin considers it old news. I think the only accrual for pay was with the COLA option.

Although I am not a fan of ALPA as you know, in this case there is nothing they could have done. Even if they all stood their ground the law would have changed. My age group will be 67 before social security is available. (If it is there at all!!) Throwing pilots out at 60 no longer made sense. We are living longer and are healthier longer.

If you were a betting man, how would YOU place your bet? Read the news, check the gas prices, look at advanced bookings, capacity cuts, and the inflation that is happening, but for timing reasons, has not been reported yet. This is not Rocket Science!

The other consideration is that since this is an election year, no one will really know how bad it is until early next year. History is simply repeating itself from previous times of significant and sustained changes in energy costs! It's the one commdity that affects the cost of EVERYTHING!

Look back on the industry history in the late 70's and early 80's. To a low seniority pilot, it will be Shock and Awe! This time will probably be worse and affect more pilots than ever before. Be situationally aware, and to the best of your ability--be prepared! The Tsunami is coming!
