Gee...we at SWA haven't been wearing hats for about 6 or 7 years now. I had no idea that it was a message to management.

Could this be the first shot in the "Taking it Back" campaign ?

Guys like you have to wear a hat to conceal that front to back pee orifice in the top of your d!ckhead!

I guess when you guys finally get into a confrontation with management you'll need to do a "shirt switch".

Problem is, when you take your shirts off, management will think you're passengers.

PIPE:nuts:

If the MEC tells you not to wear your hat, then don't wear your fu--ing hat!

If the MEC tells you to take a bath with a toaster, then take a bath with a fu--ing toaster.

Has the union come out supporting the PIC's right to cancel a flight or critisized him for the hat issue. The PIC's rights trump the hat, IMO.

PCL,

I'm not on the MEC so please don't take a bath with a toaster.

The hat issue is simply a tool to

A. show the company we are unified &

B identify those that are not with us.

The PIC obviously has rights, he also has a choice as to wether he is with us or not. If not then he gets what he deserves from his fellow pilots.

As if having your pension stolen, enduring two pay cuts, flying more hours than any major, and farmed out flying isn't enough to "unify"? But a hat or lack thereof will? Am I missing something over here?

Yes you are. It is a VISUAL, as in all your peers can see, sign as to who is with us and who is not. It gives the union an idea as to how much support they have and the company gets to see we are unified. Obviously the things you stated are what got the movement going.

So let me get this straight....UAL is losing $6M/day and the pilots think management really gives a rats a** how "unified" the pilots are? Well, if it gives ya a warm and fuzzy to see the guy/gal next to ya isn't wearing his hat in "protest" and it makes you feel "unified" with him/her, I guess keep up the fight! At least you won't miss wearing it when you are standing in the unemployment line....this is a group in bad need of a hug!

These pilot unions sure are a sad lot. That you even need to come UP with this stuff....the hat issue, in a feeble attempt to show UNITY is just embarrassing.

Unity should be 100 percent. Period. But it's not, and that's why so many airline pilots have found themselves in the position they are in.

I'm sure the IAM and the UAW look at an ALPA member and just laugh when they read stuff like this.

An airline pilot will be the first one to sell out their co-worker.

It will never be the way it was. Too many people willing to take your job and do it for less.

Somebody tries to cross a picket line in Detroit, they get killed. Cross an ALPA picket line, you get a seniority number. I bet you can count on one hand a pilot scab that has lost sleep over scabbing.

But this hat issue is just simply amazing. Sort of like General Lee's "United PLUS ONE" bag sticker.

Clueless individual. Obviously has no idea what it means to be in a union. I guess we should just role over and let management do as they wish, that should work out well!!!

Acutally I agree with Ultrarunner. Did the United guys take a paycut and lower guarantee to keep the furloughs from happening? Or did it "suck to be you" if you were junior? Every one of my buds that I talk to is flying over 90 hours a month right now. Let's see what happens when the 737's and 747's go away this fall.

Gup

Actually furlough mitigation negotiations are taking place right now. I don't work for a company like yours that has a good employee/management realationship. Do you think with no union things would be better? I'm happy for you guys but the rest of the industry isn't quite like Southwest.

No. Don't roll over. However, being in a union has nothing to do wth wearing or not wearing your hat. That's easy compared to actually risking it all and going out on strike. Why someone at UAL ALPA thinks that will make a difference is beyond me.

I used to be at UAL and I'm embarrassed for you guys regarding this "hat switch" thing. Stickers on bags, hats on or off, whatever - it might make someone feel good but UAL (or any other airline) management can't possibly give a rat's ass.

What a pathetic, useless effort. They and the general public (including the people on the cancelled flight) are laughing their asses off at you guys. Ooooooh!! They're not wearing their hats - we better not mess with these guys, they're serious.

The only thing that management understands or cares about is a "no" vote on a TA and a striking pilot group.

Again, the only thing the hat on/off thing signifies is UNITY. It has nothing to do with breaking a rule. It shows the company that the group can and will stand together....hopefully it will continue when things get rough. I, however, will be furloughed so for me, it's kind of a non-issue.

Thanks for your support. As a former UAL pilot you should have enough sense to read between the lines. YOU should understand there is more. +16 mean anything to you? Noticed any UAL airplanes single engine taxiing?? Good luck in your new career.

See you in a few years. I enjoyed the trip. Can't promise I won't be harassing though....

The ultimate demonstration of unity is a vote.

It's easy not to wear a hat. It's hard to vote no on a lousy contract. Most pilot groups have voted for concessionary contracts and voted in their personal interests. You're kidding yourself if you don't think management knows this. That's why the hat idea is silly. You think someone from the MEC is going to show up at your house and tell you how to vote?

I would hope that the pilots of UA don't need that much hand holding. Although I have only been here a short time, I can tell you they are a pretty angry but unified group. Like I said before, I hope it continues when things get tough and I'm sure they will.

I would like to return some day to a contract that resembles the pre BK one + some at least.

Who knows if there will even be anything to return to?

You make some good points. I will tell you the votes are coming in via on time performance, or lack there of and fuel burn.

Good call. The best way to get management's attention is to hurt the bottom line. Because if they are forced into Ch. 11 again or even Ch. 7, management is screwed!!!
