Typical whoosie mentality....

An experienced Captain would call up the chief pilot:

Capt:... THAT POS 200 ALMOST GOT ME AND MY CREW KILLED. YOUR'E LUCKY I SAVED THIER ASSES. I AM TIRED OF THIS BS! AFTER THE WE GET OUT OF THE HOSPITAL, CALL A 5 STAR HOTEL AND PUT US UP AWAY FROM THE PRESS! AND WE ARE FLYING FIRST CLASS BACK TO THE STATES ON A EURO CARRIER LIKE BA, AF/KLM OR LH W/ HOT FAS. NOT UAL, NWA, DAL, ETC... WITH THIER HAGGY FAS!! I'M PHCUKING PISSED!!

worse case...blame it on the pain killers...

After that, the chief would probably say;

"So you guys are OK? Good, scheduling got you on a DH to the Middle East to pick up the rest of your trip. You've got 30 minutes to get over to the passenger terminal".

The biggest idiots in aviation are always the ones that want to "Monday Morning Quarterback" aviation incidents and accidents. Save your pretend sympathy for someone else!!

First off let me say that I'm glad everyone is OK.

Secondly let me express my opinion...yes it is MY opinion that somebody screwed the pooch.

An abort should have stopped on the runway per the numbers. After V1 it's time to take the problem into the air and solve it there.

There are no other choices.

Wrong.

That's great if the aircraft is acually capable of flight. For all we know, it was structual failure simply because of the 747's age. If that's the case, they're lucky they weren't airborn. It could've been a Pilot Fox Uniform but we don't know the facts yet.

If the aircraft is incapable of flight post V1 then I guess its already been decided for you. How are you going to treat that one as an inflight emergency?

Aircraft are designed to fly not go cross country over dirt bank's and ditches and stay in one piece. Thats what ATV's are for.

Glad all OK and we will just have to wait for the official report in a few months as to what happened.
I was trying to find out if the A/C came apart before or as a result of the RTO. Do we even know if they performed an RTO, or did the A/C perform it for them when it failed?

I wasn't speculating, I was asking.

Carry on.

Now there's a credible, highly informed opinion. With no facts in evidence, nothing at all but a broken airplane and some popular news stories surrounded by wild conjecture, you've already formed an opinion and thrown blame. How professional you must feel.

Speculation means guesswork, which means ignorance. You keep right on celebrating ignorance while the rest of the community rightfully reserves frank discussion until at least SOMETHING of substance comes out.

Do we even know if they performed an RTO, or did the A/C perform it for them when it failed?

No. Until the most basic of facts are known, conjecture based on guesswork is best remanded to the 14 year old and under crowd.
