How many new airlines would ever start if they started at the pay scale that you all would like to have and consider decent.
They have a concept and are giving it a go. If they succeed, more jobs for all of you. If you do not want one, do not apply.
Many of you have pilot jobs because somewhere along the line, someone started an airline just like this. In fact, in many of the older ones, the equipment were older tired jets and now one is dealing with new A319's and excellent training.
This is the same mentality that says that now I have my jet rating, these little piston guys should get out of the way. Well, most of the people bitching got to where they were through pounding the sky with these old pistons. Saw Skybus at, or rather lack skybust at BUR this weekend. Thier checkin kiosk was next to our WN counter, we had 3-5 PEOPLE behind the counter to assist the customer, the Skybust kiosk? Nobody there, except two skybust customers wondering what to do, the jet left without them...
Good luck skybust, as soon as the public gets some of your "service" they won't be back...
$153 per trip at SWA or about $174 per hour for first year captain.
You're overestimating the traveling public - trust me they'll be back - all they see is low fares. I remember when Ryan Air competed with Easy Jet in Europe and they’re losing tons of money - guess what – Ryan Air is still around and growing like a wild fire! Unfortunately, they'll survive and eventually will be a huge airline.
One day - Southwest will be considered a "legacy" airline – and passengers will complain how expensive it is to travel on SWA - you'll see...![]()
Just answered your question. Thats what a 319CA should make 1st year. Simple as that.
I guess we won't have many start-up airlines, then...
No, I'm not overestimating the public, they want service, you get that from people, not machines.
WN IS a legacy airline, we will evolve, watch and learn grasshoper.

Every airline is running a load factor of 80% plus which is essentially full and they are turning away business--yet airline execs like Doogie Parkweiser say we have too much capacity..... I don't think so--although if you can't make money hand over fist with the flights this full then there is probably room for new airlines....Good!
We need airline capacity and competition like we need a hole in the head!
