listen up, and hear this. I am in no way saying its a good thing that the mins are being lowered. I cannt agree with it, but thenext time you get on a NWA wide body............he might be one of those they hired with less time than that XJ is asking for! yes, NWA would give a contract of hire to a guy that had just promised to get his Multi-commercial! Some guys were hired with like 300 hours! Its ben done before, and by our most sought after majors..................oh yes, Continetal just gave a 300 hour woman a hiring scholarship.............so there you go!

Well said!

Mesa Mins: 500 tt

Mesaba Mins: 600 tt

SCARY

Not scary at all.

Next time you fly a BA 747-400 out of any of the US bases, or UK, try talking to the flight crew...you may run in to a very young gal/guy who got hired and on to 747 with less hours than Mesa and Mesaba. What would you do?

I'm sure, based on your beliefs, you'd not get on that 'doomed' flight across the Atlantic!

Name one carrier operating within the US that hires 747 pilots with 50 hours
of piper seminole time.

I think he's saying that BA, and many other foreign carriers have ab initio training. These pilots go from zero-time to the right seat of jets with very little time compared to their American counterparts.

I don't know how they do it, though. I mean, come on - how can you replace all that invaluable experience of watching students do touch-and-goes that the average American regional pilot has?

I wasn't sure about the aircraft type but i knew it was a heavy. But it was my student when i was instructing. He was a guy from taiwan who i gave his private, instrument, commercial to and is now flying for them or still maybe in training. But he got hired with around 300 TT and 50 Multi. Maybe it is just the natural born guys but I know for a fact you have guys like this flying heavies. Even though it might just be as a cruise pilot.

A huge difference between US carriers and foreign carriers is the amount of time spent doing OE. At Mesaba it is minimum 25 hours and by the time you get there most guys are ready for the line. Foreign companies keep you on OE for WAY longer, sometimes 100-200 hours for low time guys. It's a whole different ball game across the pond.
