ExpressJet joins the team as our latest Delta Connection carrier
dlconnection_logo.jpg
ExpressJet is the newest member of the Delta Connection carrier team and has signed a two year capacity purchase agreement with Delta. The deal covers 10 50-seat ERJ-145XR aircraft that will start service between May and July. The majority of these planes will operate between Los Angeles and Mexico and U.S. domestic cities as well as serving some ski destinations from Salt Lake City. Houston-based ExpressJet will be the new Delta Connection carrier in the SLC market, replacing the current Atlantic Southeast Airlines service.
"We are pleased to have ExpressJet join the Delta Connection program," said Shawn Anderson, v.p.-Delta Connection. "We decided to partner with them because of their strong operating performance and the capabilities of their ERJ-145XR fleet that will enable us to offer customers more choices to and from the Western ski markets and into our hub in Los Angeles."
The restructured Delta Connection program ensures that we have the cost-competitive regional flying required as we restructure our network, while providing excellent service for our customers.

I don't see anything more than what has already been announced simply because no other aircraft are avaliable. These aircraft were the only aircraft "left over" if you will from our other commitments.

BTW, I don't think there will too much gloating. You never know, we have 10% a$$holes like everyone else.

While this is negative for ASA, it is not good for SkyWest Holdings, Inc., either. Apparently Delta is not going to let any entity have a monopoly of any market, even if it makes sense to do so.

I think I can see why the managers are also beginning to bail out in addition to the pilots that are leaving. Wow, this end of the business is going to get ugly if no one has greater than a few weeks' look into the future of their operation.

What's so great about the 145 XR? I know it has longer legs than the regular 145 but is it that much better than a CRJ?

You can always put fifty people on it and fill it with enought gas to fly four hours from airports above 5000 feet. For once a plane does just what it was advertised to do.

It's got excellent hot and high takeoff performance. You can also load it with bags, gas, and pax and still have weight left over to play with. Good airplane all around!

Bragging about who has the best 50-seater is like bragging about who has the best double-wide in the trailer park.

You know, I usually despise the arrogance in your posts SuperKooter. But that was downright funny...I don't care who ya are.

The only fifty seat flying that ASA did in SLC was through to LAX.

Quit gloating.

For the record, based on his profile and previous posts, the person who created this thread is an ASA pilot....so I don't think he intended to gloat.

Don't you mean bragging about who has the best looking double breasted pilot jacket?

I didn't see SLC in any of the public announcements today. It only said service from LAX to Mexico and Western ski markets. I think someone is hoping that they see some SLC flying out of the deal, but I'll bet it will just be turns to SLC from LAX if anything. There is no SLC base for XJT pilots now and I don't think there will be one in the future. If there is, then SKYW will have to use some of their cash to buy XJT then move the flying back out of SLC.

Hey,

They're ALPA, so it's not stealing!! (Soon to be followed by "you're always welcome in my JS")

Thankyou sir, may I have some more?

The statement in the news release that stood out for me was:
Houston-based ExpressJet will be the new Delta Connection carrier in the SLC market, replacing the current Atlantic Southeast Airlines service.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm reading into it that all of our (ASA's) 50 seat and 70 seat flying out of SLC will be replaced by XJT. Makes you kinda wonder how fast ASA is sinking...

As opposed to the "comfortable" CRJ? All the RJ's are uncomfortable.

My personal experience is that the CRJ is relatively more comfortable than the E145. They both suck for anything more than 50 minutes. The E170 was pretty nice the one time I have ridden on it and beats them both.

Unless your in first class all airline seats are uncomfotable after a little bit.

Personally, I enjoy riding on RJ's... ERJ or CRJ I prefer over any Boeing or Airbus product assuming we're talking coach.

However, many people appear to despise the CRJ. I'm not quite sure why... though this thread is pretty entertaining:

These aren't pilots, just passengers... frequent fliers savvy enough to know the difference between a ERJ and a CRJ. My favorite quote "I would take an ERJ on fire over a CRJ any day." lol

I get the fact that you have to be baised toward your ride.

Personally, I think the E170 is loud.....give me an airbus.

Just wondering but where are all the crying express guys now? They bitch and bitch about how CHQ is scumb taking all THEIR flying but it's ok to take Delta routes flown by ASA.

What a bunch of hypocrites!

I think I know what the announcement is going to be.........

Chuck Norris will be ASA's new Chief Pilot. Everybody else will be sent back to the line!

There were 2 reasons the ASA 50 seater went through SLC.

1. There was an ASA Maintenance base in SLC.

2. SLC was the crossover point to transition 50 seaters from ATL to the West Coast.

However, the information did mention XJET service from SLC to Colorado Ski markets. It's possible that what was meant was service from LAX to these Colorado ski markets. There would be no reason to have fly out of SLC since Skywest is already there. Or would there?

Yeah, we as a pilot group can control this stuff. You guys are a bunch of f&*king morons who need to get out of your mom's basement and off the computer for a while. You should be excited that a pilot group has proven it can obtain business without taking a 30% pay cut, hence paving the way for your carrier to one day have to pay you more money.

That is why I get up and put on the monkey suit; money. I have a family to care for. If you're doing this because it's your "dream", then yippee dee for you. The rest of us want to make a living. Tell that to your boss(es) next time they try to shove a substandard contract down your throat. The rest of us will be all the better for it.

Head out of hind quarters sir. Who took a pay cut here? Don't judge the entire pilot group based on some comments you read here, I know that I don't judge yours. Welcome to the DConn family, enjoy the Sunchips.
