Hi all,

Over the years, I've seen/flown my share of famous people, but only one sticks in my mind:

I was wandering around the terminal in CLT, looking for a quiet place to sit before I non-revved home. I finally found a place in the gate area for Willmington, NC (back when US flew mainline jets there).

So, I'm sitting there chilling out, and I look up to see Colm Meaney, who played Miles O'Brian on Deep Space Nine (it was big just then). He caught me looking at him, and nodded.

I was going to say something, but I stopped myself. I figured that the poor man was probably heading to some sci-fi convention at a Holiday Inn in no-where South Carolina in the middle of summer. I felt sympathy for the man and let him be.

Best,
Nu

I just remembered while working line in RVS some christian / jazz saxaphone player came in. Wish I could remeber his name. He seemed to be a total jerk. He was in a slowtation.

Seen a few KC Cheifs players catch a charter out or two of OJC.

Also heard that the second Bacholar guy came through OJC.

I have seen quite a few, but have only had several on my actual flight.

Joe Theisman - from FYV to Mem
Eddie Money - FYV to MEM
George Carlin - I think we were going to either GPT or MOB
Evander Holyfield - saw him in DCA
Tom Cruise - saw him deplane at an FBO in ABQ
Oprah - saw her at an FBO in AMA
Carrot Top - talked with him a few minutes waiting to load in MEM
Miss America - dont remember her name, the deaf one. On my flight from MEM to somewhere in Florida, don't remember.
Spike Lee - On my flight I think to JFK or DCA
Mike Stanton - an old high school buddy, and a very good relief pitcher.
Justin Wilson - years ago out of DAL to ABQ on LUV
George Burns - years and years ago, saw him in Denver's airport making a commercial.

I have flown a few famous poeple, but i have actualy met a lot more when i was doing line service a few years back.
The ones i met while doing line Service
George Bush Sr., Jeb Bush, Jimmy Carter, Margret Thacher, Terry Bradshaw
MIke Ditka, Larry Csonka, Joe Theisman, Larry Bird

Ron Howard and family several times-very cool
Patricia Cornwell-author. Took helicopter lessons at our airport.

George Carlin

Who Are We Flying Today?

Don't have all those tens of thousands of hours like most of you guys, but I've run into a few out there...

Morgan Freeman - actor - we shot the breeze at the fbo in Oklahoma City while he waited on his jet to show up. To my surprise he was all alone - and he spoke first! One of the nicest celebrities I think you could meet- and my favorite actor too!

LL Cool J - music personality - bumped into him at O'Hare and I talked to him breifly about some of his really old school stuff.

Elton John - music personality - Signature PDK around 2am - I helped unload their personal effects and then stayed on to drink a lot of coffee with the Gulfstream III pilots that were whisking him around.

Bruce Willis - actor - New Charleston Intl he flew in on his private Gulfstream back when I was a kid and my brother was a line guy there, just remember being too surprised to say much when he was talking to me.

Coach Fulmer - sports - Flew an 8 day trip with the coach and his staff on the Citation II as one of my first trips on the jet. Recruiting trip that took us all over the country, we really got to know the coach, kinda strange when I was used to seeing him on tv so much.

That post by PeteBess is actually from myself; thats what

it would prompt me to log-in

At Santa Barbara Aviation when I was a ramper/CFI there many yeas ago:

John Travolta - Had a Citation, JetStar, B-707, and Constellation back then.

Pamela Hensley - Came up on weekends in her boyfriends Beech Staggerwing, also took flying lessons from one of the lucky instructors.

Bo Derek
Jane Fonda

In terminals or flown:

Andre the Giant in Dayton, Ohio walking through the terminal, huge guy, ended up on our flight to PIT.

Steve Ritchie, USAF top scoring ace in Vietnam

Thursday morning, DFW, gate E24...Jessica Simpson boards an ASA CRJ-200 going to Charleston. (Sadly, I was going to Raleigh-Durham.)

Actually, I was in Charleston's cockpit talking to the crew when Simpson and her one-woman entourage bounced aboard. I've heard that "the camera" adds pounds, but height? She looked to be about 5'1"!

My F/O expressed great displeasure at missing this, to which our F/A replied, "oh, you like 'em stupid, huh?"

The Charleston F/O, a retired Navy guy, didn't know who Jessica Simpson is... :D

Ben Vereen - Super nice guy....it was my first flight out of training, and somewhere in the ATL system.

Storey Musgrave - Took him from DFW to HOU...he signed autographs for the whole crew as well as all the other passengers. Talked to me about the Space Program the rest of the flight. Wonderful man. :)

LeeAnn Womack - I brought her back to DFW from LBB after a concert at Tech. Her orginal Eagle flight had been cx, and she was not a happy camper. When I asked her (very discreetly and politely) if she would mind signing her boarding card for me, since I was a fan, she rudely told me 'This is why I fly American. The 'help' isn't allowed to ask for autographs.' I haven't bought another CD of hers since, and won't ever again.

Robert VanWinkle aka Vanilla Ice - I'll admit....I did laugh when he boarded. I mean c'mon...Vanilla Ice?!?! He was a really nice guy though.....autographed a load distribution form for me, gave me his boarding stub, and then slept the rest of the flight.

Man of unknown name - Don't remember this guy's name, but he will forever live on in my list (of 'infamous' , if not famous px).......only because he decided halfway through a flight from FAY-ATL to go to row 8 in the Brasilia, and whip it out to take a leak by the emergency exit!

I have a friend that flys for Kallitta(sp?) He told me once of picking up James Brown in Miami. Mr. Brown was travelling with some of his ladies( I think about 3 or 4 of 'em!) that day. The Lear24 they were flying that hot August day had no air conditioning and they were like #15 for departure. After awhile, the make-up and mascara started to run down the womens faces due to the extreme heat. At that point, James yelled at my friend," Say man, unghhh, can't ya put some air back here? My bitches is starting to melt, owwww!" I thought that was kinda funny!

Now that's FUNNY!!!!!

I never flew any famous peeps, as my claim to fame is being the freightdog, but I do remember flying a load of Fresian milkers from MIA to BQN one hot Miami morning.....As I informed the tower of our perishable load (94 cows) and receiving clearance to taxi past some 18 jets into position and hold, I smiled to myself thinking that some of those rich and famous would be pretty pissed if they knew my cows jumped the conga line...Heh Heh
Mebbe James Brown was in that lineup.

i saw a very drunk dennis rodman @ SNA, fell from the top step of a GIV and hit the bottom step with his head. quite a site.

Matthew Perry

Was about to go out and pre-flight, when in thru the Signature FBO door at ALB, comes Matthew Perry (Friends) and Christa Miller (Drew Carey Show). They had just flown in on a private jet.
There were a couple of other ladies with him, but didn't know who they were.

They were both very nice, but were obviously trying to avoid attention. Heard later on that the yellow mustang convertible he had rented thru Signature, was not to his lady companions liking. They had wanted an SUV.

Jessica Lynch today at Million Air, TEB. That's one tiny little girl. She didn't look old enough to drive a car - let alone join the armed forces.

Also, Sly Stallone at Million Air, TEB. He's about as tall as Jessica. :D

Working at FBO
-Norman Shwartzkopf (sp?)
-Rusty Wallace : Most arrogant jerk I ever met
-Richard Childress
-Sen. John Warner (VA)

Flew Ollie North around for campaign speeches in VA. He is as nice as they come. A real gentleman

Saw Richard petty in the bathroom at Sinature BNA. That boy is Tall!

At ACA

-Saw ron Howard at HPN, he was getting on BizEX at the time

-Took over J32 that Janet Reno came in from CHO on.

-Flew Drew Barrymore from YUL to BOS on Dojet. She had just been divorced from Tom Green. The ramper came up and in a very loud voice said " Hey CAP, She's single now so she's all yours!" She heard him, laughed, and stayed friendly to everyone. She must have taken 100 pictures with the kids on the flight. She is tiny.

Recently had Lt. Gov Bustamonte(SP?) from CA on board but didn't talk to him.

Arnold Schwartzenager (sp?) was at our hotel at LAX for a campaign party.

Met Charles Barkley several times on my commute from PHX to ATL. He is much cooler than I ever expected.

Rusty Wallace : Most arrogant jerk I ever met

You ain't lyin' :D

Being from the area, I've met alot of NASCAR people at GSO, EXX, and BUY, and all the Childress guys when I lived in Welcome, NC. Most are really nice, normal guys (The Petty's are ALWAYS friendly and gracious to a fault) but 'Rubberhead' Wallace and Ricky 'Rude' Rudd have a reputation for being real asses.

I guess is if I was a washed up has-been in the Redneck Mafia I'd have an attitude, too. :D

my short list

flown:

eddie vedder (pearl jam lead singer) many many times. sometimes with his victoria secret model girlfriend....we usually didnt notice him on the plane when that happened.. :)

david spade - really nice guy, joked around and the crew got pix with him by the plane

laurence fishburn - also nice guy.. didnt say much except "mahalo" as he was getting off the plane.

ceo of boeing - cant remember his name at the moment. whacked his head on the way out of my plane.

henry kapono, the group hapa and a few other local celebs

my brain fails me so....

not on my plane, but just missed em as they flew on us:

cindy crawford and family - really nice, down to earth, talked and gave autographs to the FAs and gate agents. took a tour of our flight ops area.

bridget and henry fonda

the guy from behind the fence on the tv show home improvement. story goes that the FA didnt regonize him til he was reading the newspaper and it was covering the lower part of his face.

englebert humperdink

Jumpseating through DFW once, I saw Verne Troyer (Mini-Me) sitting on an electric cart with his short legs dangling...kinda funny to see.

I've flown:
Rachel Hunter LAX-MRY - looked good, but not as hot as in the "Stacey's Mom" video.

Geraldo Rivera SAN-LAX - seemed like a nice enough guy, chatted with the F/A...even after she yelled "Oh my God, Geraldo!!!" as he climbed the steps.

Tom Jones LAS-PSP - he's looking really old

Andy Dick(News Radio) SBP-LAX - weird.

Randy 'Duke' Cunningham CIC-SFO - really nice guy, talked to him before the flight by the soda machines. He asked if I was military or civilian trained of course. I got him to sign my flight release and got a biography sheet from him. No pressure on that landing of course since it was my turn to fly.

Kiefer Sutherland SGU-SLC

Blue Oyster Cult SBP-LAX

Ed Harris MRY-LAX - didn't see him but saw his name on the pax list after landing.

Tommy Chong MEM-DFW - just a few weeks before his most recent arrest. Nice guy.

Ben Stein SMF-LAX - totally cool guy. Told the F/A she was beautiful and said thanks to us up in the cockpit as he deplaned.

Tommy Smothers, numerous times around CA. Really nice guy, even chatted with him at the gate about flow delays once, then carried his golf clubs to the plane.

then carried his golf clubs to the plane.

Way to "lower the bar" man. Next you'll be out cleaning the plane during turns!

I 'yus kidding. :D

Back on topic:

I also saw Bernadette Peters at Million Air TEB. Nice @$$ for an old chick.

Walked right by Dan Marino and Dan Rather a couple of weeks ago and didn't notice either one of them.

One of the CSR guys there said he was sitting in the pilots lounge one night during his break and Danny DeVito came in and sat down and started eating. He said DeVito offered him some of his food. Hopefully he can use some of that charm, along with Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston and can bring peace to Iraq on their upcoming trip.

My turn:
Mike Wallace BOS-MVY 3x
Sen John Kerry BOS-ACK 2X
Bob Villa BOS-MVY 3x
Bill Belichek HYA-ACK

The coolest was the cab driver from the show Wings. His daughters wanted to know if I knew who he was. We were in a 402, going MVY-PVD and they thought it was the same plane from the show. I told them "Yes" I knew who thier Dad was and that this was not the same plane, but we still fly the one from the show.

You have to understand something here. Celebs are continuosly bothered no matter when or where they go. Now granted they know this upfront that they can't have days to themselves. Just think about having a bad day when you want to be left alone and someone comes up to you and asks you for something. She probably wasn't even upset you asked she just wanted to be left alone that day. I don't know her but I have a childhood friend who is a celeb. You walk around and people just constantly bombard you. It can be very intrusive. Sometimes even scary. Plus, not everyone is polite when they ask for pictures or autographs. Then theres the paparazzi always stalking you. You have to give them a little more leeway.

I had an overnight in Tampa with the Houston Texans... they were playing the Buc's the following night.

I met Bobby Unser (Indy Car driver) in Bend, OR.

I had someone tell me they were famous but had no idea of who they were when they told me their name, I think that kinda offended them.
