The armchair analysts are gonna come out in force now. Ah, it'll be worth a chuckle anyway.[/quote]

I took the bait but please correct me if anything looks out of line.

For 08, any agricultural stock, the financial will rebound, new target price for Google is now 820  and my personal favorite AAPL, you just gotta own it in my opinion.

Hello, 2006, is that you??

You bought sun micro at the peak of the dot-com boom didn't you?:D

I'm very aware of the not-so rosy picture....

Who's NOT forecasting losses/softer profits besides FDX and UPS-who are ceasing hiring with age 65????

My pay and work rules at CHQ are worse than Airways...

For me at least, it's still a step up.......

Any jump to mainline is a gamble....

I appreciate your insight, but it hasn't scared me yet. It's all about perspective and right now I have the chance for a much better future at Airways than CHQ. It's a gamble, but for me it's a well-calculated, educated risk.

If I was 10-15 years older, with a family, I'd think twice. But I'm not.... For me, this is a no-brainer of a choice.

Again, it's all about personal perspective and where you're coming from.....

congrats on the job, may I ask your age?

As it looks at the moment, you did quite well in your analysis. But that data pretty much falls into the category of "ministry of the bleedin obvious." However as to future developments, who the hell knows, which is what I was getting at in the first place.

I've seen to many people who thought they had it all figured out get bitten in the butt, thats all. I think the old gut is as good a guide as any of the most powerful logic.

Amen. I have climbed 3,000 numbers in seniority from the day I got hired and if I returned today I would still have a hard time getting a line as an FO on the plane I left. If/when I retire from the AF then we'll see if my seniority number at USAir is worth returning!

perspective, use it or lose it.

We're seeing the effect of our insane seniority system. Noone's happy b/c noone's truly secure. Any security that does fall on a pilot comes from someone else and not from your own abilities.

Pattern bargaining is not WORTH this kind of inflexibility in our careers. Start thinking about a national list and how every choice and dynamic of your career would change. The benefits FAR outweigh what any "senior" person could lose in the change.

We need to allow companies that are bad at running airlines to go out of business. This should happen w/o the pilots either bailing them out or forced to start COMPLETELY OVER at poverty wages.

If we allow companies that are bad at running airlines to go out of business; there wouldn't be any airlines left to fly for !!

PHXFLYR:cool:

Are they still runninging this class? If so:

Are they all new hires?
How many in class?
Bases/Equipment?

Just curious..thanks !

This class will happen, but I think most (if not all) of this class will be a group of "special" recalled pilots.

Prior to MDA shutting down, there were a little over 100 former CEL pilots flying the E-170. All these pilots were on the ML seniority list. Now, if an original APL pilot quit MDA, he was not removed from the seniority list and could be recalled again at a later date. However, if a former CEL pilot quit MDA proir to being furloughed, they were removed from the seniority list. There were about 20-25 pilots that did this.

When the recalls reached these pilots, some indicated they wanted to come back, but the company's position was "no", as they were no longer on the list. Once they were on the property flying the 170, they should have had the same ability to get recalled if they quit MDA prior to being furloughed. Thus a grievance was filed...

After many, many months, the grievance was fought and won.

The settlement was that any of these pilots that wanted to come back could do so with a few restrictions: They would lose their original seniority position and any longevity and be placed at the bottom of the list. However, they would be senior to any new-hires. All of these pilots were called in December and given a Jan.7th class date. If they filled the class, which I believed happened, the rest would be in the next class. All remained in relative seniority among themselves, but were given a hire date of August 2007 (I believe that is the right month). They will be junior to all the original seniority list pilots but will be senior to all new-hires (including the AWA poolies now on line).

Hope that answers your question...

Edited to add: I also think they will all get the 190 in PHL...

With regards to this class,
I am one of at least 3 people that I know that are off-the-street new hires in class for Jan 7th.

Hope that helps-heard anywhere from 4 to 8 new hires in this class.

Good luck.

Also-all three of us were assigned PHL 190. Indoc is 2 weeks in PHX followed by about 4 weeks in CLT.

Congrats... After talking to a few I know that will be in this class, I believe the comapny limted the number of these recalls and the rest will follow in the next class. Either way, enjoy the 190, I'm sure you will find this to be an awesome aircraft...

Based on your homework, could you shed some light on which airline you would bet on and why? Please try to be as specific as possible. (For example, management, their long term strategy, current and long term economic condition, politics (domestic and international), the nature of the current airline market and how you think it would change in the future, etc., etc.,)

Thanks in advance!

1) Fed Ex and UPS-obvious
2)DAL or CAL- look strong for now but you will be in the right seat forever(at least it will be a heavy most likely). Both have a strong international route structure.
3)SWA- never furloughed a pilot, good income potential. Cons-737 for life, not hiring right now, younger pilot group, pay for the type.
4)NWA- gamble, but who isn't...oldest pilot group and least effected by age 65. Strong in Asian markets with lots of potential w/787 out of MEM- Asian Auto markets. Pay will probably get better w/new contract in 09(hopefully).
5) AirTran-stable but if you are going to fly a 737 for life then why not SWA w/better pay? Cons-contract issues, young pilot group.
6)United, US Airways-very risky. UA poor management(most are bad but UA seems to be worst). US Airways-could go either way but looks like east pilots are at their final breaking point. 190 Pay rates suck. Missed window to negiotiate reasonable payrates.
7)American-not hiring so I don't know what will happen.

This is just my opinion but maybe most will agree???

A friend of mine at FedEx said they are now 200+ pilots fat due to age 65 and will not be hiring anytime soon. This is from a company e-mail also most recent bid rescinded.
