Avoiding the jelly finger.

I hope you guys are right, I'm 34 and hope to skip the "full cavity search"!!!

No Med yet, but still keeping hope alive.

Bohnzai

I'm 34 and I did not have the jelly finger given to me, but there was a lot of probing of my family jewels. I think she was hitting on me.

Ah, to be 35 (or less) again!

Ok folks. I have been on a road trip for the past week and I am checking in to see what I missed. Looks like I finally found a reason NOT to look forward to getting the call. At 37 I will be in the VIP line. Oh well, small price to pay I guess. I just feel so cheap and dirty......

Hawg

PS On the subject of age.....Can any of you X poolies give me an idea of how old the "seniors" were in each of you classes?

FYI - HR called today and scheduled me for the 25 July class. :) Sounds like more classes are being worked.

Poolies - expect to get a phone call soon. Not sure, however, what other class dates are available after 25 July.

Good luck all - see you on campus in July!

GB,

Congrats on the phone call. How long were you in the pool for??

LLB

Thanks.

10 Days!

It took 8 days after my Interview Date to receive the "Congratulations - Your In The Pool" letter, and 10 days later to receive a phone call with the "Formal Job Offer" and Medical Exam appointment. I took my medical on a Friday and UPS called with the results the following Tuesday (Monday was a Holiday).

Good luck. Hope this helps.

I'll see ya there. I got my call today also. It's going to be a class of 20.
14 FO and 6 SO. All the SO's will be DC-8's. I didn't get an exact breakdown of FO positions but was told FO's to DC-8, 757, MD-11.

Joey

Congrats guys!

Congrats out to JoeyLikey and gucciboy! Sounds like a great class!

Did my med., and everything went great! Nurse said I passed all the tests, and the doc didn't say anything about the EKG or the exam, and congratulated me on the job, so I took that to mean that he passed me as well. All I am waiting for is the bloodwork and whiz quiz results to come back. I am hoping to hear something back this week. :) Thanks to all of you out there that gave me intel on the med. It was exactly as advertised! Piece of cake! Got all nervous for absolutely nothing. I do have to say, though, man, was it great to get down to SDF again! It totally pumps you up to see all those airplanes! Well, it did for me. :o

Oh, and by the way, the trip up the "Hershey highway" is determined by age. I'm 33 and the doc told me that I was lucky - it is 35. Straight from his mouth. Whew!!! Pucker factor was starting to creep up as the exam progressed.

Good luck to all my poolie buddies! I hope you guys get that call real soon!!!! I'll post when I hear something.

Reaching (hopefully) for a towel.....

Congrats! Great info on the class breakdown. Very exciting. Did you also get the email from HR today containing the details of the class? I opened up my email and I think HR mistakenly put 7 July for the class instead of 25 July. I think it's a typo but I'll call them tomorrow and double check. Air Force still has me until 22 July.:( See you in training.:D

I got the call for the 7 July class yesterday!!! What a dream come true as I start 89 days of terminal leave on 5 July. I got the call for the medical 13 days after the interview and know how lucky I am. PM also surprised me with the news that we'll get $1.30 for per diem 24/7 while in training. That'll up a lot.

Congrats! I wish I had that much leave. I only have 52 days of terminal, so I can't start until the 25 July class. See you there.

And the verdict is in....

I was double blessed today to get the nod with an official job offer!!!!!! BT called and offered me the 25 July class. I am totally stoked!!!! I can hardly contain myself. :D There is one thing, though. When I went online and into my app. to check what paperwork had to be completed, there is a "reminder" on there that says I have an appointment for July 7 at 8am. Coincidentally, that is the start date of the other class. I tried calling PM to figure out what that meant, but only got her voicemail. Hopefully tomorrow I will find out if I'm in the 7th or the 25th. Either way, that's a good dilemma to have! I will take either! I'm just glad to have gotten the official "thumbs up"! Time to hang up the snorkel and flippers... :)

Good luck to all out there in the pool! Hang in there!

I got a similar 'appointment reminder' for June 27th, which is also a class date, along with a bunch of employment type forms on the website (W-4, direct deposit etc.) Regrettably, I am in Iraq until the fall so I called and spoke to PM. She said that the date of the appointment is sort of arbitrary and they have to put something in to get the ball rolling on background checks etc. I did the physical after the the interview so I believe that is taken care of. I asked if there was need to be concerned about being over here and not making it as one of the 300 new hires. Her reply was not to worry about it and that the 300 number was just for this year. Which leads me to believe the other rumors that the hiring will continue. Of course the sooner that I can get there the better. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Thanks buster!

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling that it might have been something to that degree. Just want to make sure so I show up when I'm supposed to.

By the way, thanks for your and all of our soldiers' service over in the sandbox, buster! You guys rock! Get home safely and we'll see you down in SDF! God bless!

1800 RVR

P.S. The class breakdown for 25 July was told to me as 3 DC8 FO, 1 MD11 FO, 10 757 FO, and 6 DC8 SO with various bases (don't know which). I'll take any of those seats!

1800RVR,

I will do my best in helping out Hawg in the motivation department. It is getting tuff. But I am hanging on the diving board with just a few fingers left. To all who are in, AWSOME. To all of us who wait, I am lost for words. After looking at the break down of seats, I see a seat and a base that I would love to get. But it looks like it is going on this round. I can only hope that they have not filled the 25th class up and I will be getting the call. It seems that they call you in the morning. So if no call by noon, no call for the day. I feel half way there. My background has been done. Also I see on the UPS web page that my file is still 'active'. Another positive note. Two positive just waiting for the third.

Well summer is here and I am off to some beach for the next two weeks, weather it be in the US or not I will be on a beach. Training to be a bronze god for now. All I need is my tanning oil, a GOOD pair of sunglasses, and as always my phone. Just in case they call.

Chow,
LLB

1800RVR,

Congrats! See you in class. Hang in there poolies, your time will come. It took me 3 1/2 months from interview to class date.

Joey

Now, it's official official!

Talked to PM today, and she confirmed that July 25 is the day for me. Buster was right on with the "appointment" notation - it is just an arbitrary date they put in there so they can put the additional forms on the app. Looking forward to joining gucciboy and Joeylikey in class!

LLB,

Enjoy the sun! Drink a whole bunch of cervezas for me! In the meantime, I'll send telepathic signals to get your phone to ring! :D

1800RVR & Buster

1800RVR:

I've enjoyed your posts over the last couple of months as someone told me about this site. I interviewed on 10 Feb 2005 and received pool notification about 7 weeks later. Just wanted to offer my congrads and wish you well in training!

Could you answer a couple of questions for me as I haven't read every single post yet: How long were you in the pool? Does anyone really know if we are rack & stacked in the pool based on our interview scores or is it a FIFO system?

Buster:

I feel your pain as you serve overseas. I have done many deployments overseas in support of "Operation Iraqi/Enduring Freedom" and will be doing more in the near future. I'm slated to leave for the other side of the world in late July and my biggest fear is UPS or someone else will call the day I leave. I'm sure that's the way it will happen. Congradulations on the job offer! There are many good people at UPS. You'll enjoy your career there.

IronChef
Let's see....nearly 4 years in the pool...I'd say I feel pretty confident it's not a FIFO pool.

RO

Ironchef,

I'll answer the most important question. You pool position is based on a score. The better the score then the closer you are to getting out. BUT everytime they interview someone and they score better then you, you get knocked down a little. Been in the pool since Jan 05.

Have you done your medical? If not when they call you for that, you about to slide into home plate.

The wait sucks, and I am still doing it.

Most important thing, don't let the wait effect your life. It will eat you up!!!

A fellow poolie,
LLB

RogerOver:

Ouch!

I'm sorry to hear about your long wait. A friend of mine was in the pool in the late 90's and he got a reject letter after two years for his XMAS present. I see things have not changed much in the hiring department at UPS. I hope we all have much better luck this time around in the pool.

LittleLearBoy...

Thanks for your reply LittleLearBoy. I have heard so many things over the past five months concerning the pool at UPS that it's hard to keep track.

I am definitely not standing still waiting for the call. Although I wish it would happen, I am still pursuing my other civilian avenues in flying.

The good news is at least a few of the poolies are getting out of the water. Perhaps they'll dredge the bottom where I'm hanging out with the catfish and the old tires and drag me to shore! Goodluck to ya....

Listen to LLB, He is a wise man!

Hey ironchef,

I see that LLB beat me to the punch. What he said is right on the mark. No one knows what the order is in the pool. That's one of the most agonizing parts of this whole process - not knowing!

By the way, thanks for the congrats! For me, I got the pool letter about 21 April, and got the call on 14 June. I was very lucky, and count my blessings every day. As you can see, my good pool buddy LLB, bohnzai, Hawg and others have been in the pool longer, which sucks. Unfortunately, this is the system in place. I truly hope that everyone gets calls soon. I have a feeling these guys are great guys in person as their posts make them out to be, and I look forward to meeting them one day.

Good luck to you!

1800 RVR

1800RVR,

Enjoy the class. I was told you will do a day of driving around in the brown trucks to understand what it is you are flying. I want to drive one of those trucks with the brown shorts on. I remembering hearing once a while back that the females were turned on by the uniforms!!! I want to drive for TWO days!!

Ironchef,

As for not waiting, I just don't me jobs, I also mean money. The first year pay makes you save money for when the day comes. Like I have been doing. I wanted to do a little remodeling to my house, and I was not. Well, now I am. Even thought I was going to sell it so I can move to SDF. I see that is not happing anytime soon like I was praying. I will just go on with my house projects. Also doing the things I did not want to do were spending much money was a factor. Looks like I will be getting that new MUSTANGE GT Conv, with the 5 speed and upgrade sound system!!!! Ya Baby!!

OK, back to the beach!!! LOTS of THONGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you’ve got a UPS interview coming up, remember UPS doesn’t have trucks…they have package delivery cars :)

This place is steeped in tradition.

Did my interview already, and I blew the doors off them in knowing the company. Even gave then the first to line to UPS's marching song.
