A friend was JR manned a 2 day tomorrow. They assigned him a 2 day on a 5 day off run. He was notified via ACARS. Way to ruin a good morale.

That doesn't help anyone who actually made plans...school is out, spouses time off to match yours...ect. Totally inconsiderate and poor planning. Their lack of planning shouldn't be YOUR emergency.

Read your contract. That is what they have to start with. If no volunteers then they can just take vacation from you and you either get to try to pick something later or get paid for it.
