Do companies often report profits in CH11? Just curious, as I'm neither a NYSE commando nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Yes. We did while in CH 11,which allowed us to come out of ch 11 in 1991. United recently did this past quarter. You guys never did .

You need to check your current event books. AWA is aquiring US Airways. Go to Yahoo Aviation News and type in these key words: America West + Aquiring + US Airways and you will be linked to about 40 articles explaining that AWA is indeed aquiring US Airways.

It doesn't matter where the financing is comming from. The lenders are giving a loan to America West to buy US Airways because they believe that AWA can be successful. Otherwise they'd be loaning the money to you to buy AWA.

The only reason they are sticking with the US Airways name is because US Airways has more name recognition than AWA. They like the name...not the brand. There are going to be alot of changes at US Airways as they adopt the AWA ways of doing things.

And there is no way a furloughed US Air pilot should gain anything over a current AWA pilot. Doesn't matter how long you've been there. All financial experts agree that without this merger US Airways is history (again, do a yahoo search). Would AWA be history too? Maybe. But the one certainty is that AAA is in much much worse shape than anyone else. Just the fact that we are merging makes this a better deal for the AAA people by far.

Look up the results for Hawaiian Airilnes during their last round in Ch.11. Starting the month they entered bankruptcy, they posted continuous profits for two years, including paying 100% of all bills & claims, including all extra bankruptcy expenses, 100 cents on the dollar. That just goes to show you that even if a company claims that it has to go into bankruptcy (i.e. Doug Parker's statements that AWA might have to do Ch.11 if it didn't merge), it doesn't mean that the company is going to fold, or is even unprofitable. There are buildings full of people at every company who spent years in college learning how to manipulate corporate financial statements to make it look the way the management people want; profit, loss, whatever. Accounting is a deep dark world, best left to the trolls already there.

Yeah you're right... It's really too bad because you have two really good pilot groups that will end up despising each other when the lists are merged. One of the reasons I left Usairways was that the morale was so bad it was affecting every part of our business.
If you guys dont find a way to come together under the new management team you're in serious trouble. I was there for the PSA and the Piedmont mergers, and even to this day there exists ill will amongst some.
Work it out or start over somewhere else. Starting over is no fun even in the best circumstance.

As for the financial part of your post, the same could be said of AWA. If Doug Parker could have raised $800million on his own, why didn't he just do it, right? Furthermore, why does he spend his time posting on flightinfo.com?

Here's why... With the APL/CEL list as it stands is used as a flowBACK, those pilots instantly have more seniority than anyone that stayed (say, since 1976), no matter how much time the affected pilot sat here (say, since 2000). Sounds goofy, especially with the term flowBACK. The displacements occur, those pilots sit for a bit, then move on.... elsewhere. Sounds goofier still. You show us a bridge that has some kind of continuity, and I'll show you my %age on the list. The problem here is that it is a one-way street, regardless of what your MEC floated 12-0.
