Whoa,
This guy has it nailed! If a Capt. on a RJ is dumb enough to go drop a deuce, with this guy at the controls he really is not in command of his facilities, much less the A/C. Ergo, the right to log PIC truly belongs to the F/O, I think that the Sole Manipulator clause is ignored far too often, common guys if you are hand flying you are sole manipulator, log that chit, now!
PBR

Forget the time the Captain takes to go to the bathroom! Not only do I log that time as PIC for me, here's what else I do:

Average human blink takes 1/10th of a second. Every 10 blinks is 1 second. Roughly blink 15 times per minute. That's 1.5 seconds of time that Captain is physically not looking at the controls.

For a 2 hr flight, 1.5 seconds/minute * 60 minutes * 2 hrs = 180 seconds.

180 seconds = 3 mintes

So on a 2-hr flight, I log 3 minutes as PIC because the Captain had his eyes closed!
Now THAT's some good smack!

No doubt. Got any more for sale???

Don't forget to log the time you had your eyes closed as actual instrument time.

Um, hello, I'm the only one IN COMMAND! I wish guys like you who interviewed and thought they knew all the rules would lite up and take a chill pill. Its all in my friends logbook and he'll get to be at a major a lot faster than most regional FOs who dont log it!

You may as well just buy a new pen and write whatever you want in...the "PIC" time you pencil-whip is just as valid as what you're logging now...you ARE NOT, in any case, EVER able to legitimately log PIC in an aircraft requiring 2 pilots unless you are type rated....

LOL I guess so is about every other person I know then. Look it's simple buddy. We're flying alone. If my friend isnt checked out in the airplane then what does that SIC mean???!! It means he's dual qualified for controls. my friend even said one time he was kidding with the flight attendant and said something like, if I'm now the PIC I guess that makes you the SIC! Where's your logbook so you can log it! LOL!!! he just wrote the details on a paper for her so when she buys her logbook like she said she would she can log it correctly. look, flight time is flight time and the FAA cannot even debate that. who is flying if its not PIC? no one?! LOL

You are confusing "sole manipulator of the controls" with "PIC"...let us all be clear...I think I'm speaking in agreement with all the other (non ER) folks on this one...you aren't in command of anything unless you have a type in the aircraft...if that damages your ego or self esteem or requires you to change what you tell chicks in bars, then so be it...but it's true...just accept it and move on...really dude, you're sounding like a tool and not a sharp one at that...

cm, 'sup?

Really tho...one can see this kind of thing happening for real...once in RGS we were all subjected to an hour's "discussion" about what was legitimate instrument time as far as the majors were concerned...only it was a Perdue tool at odds with the rest of the class...interpreting the FARS and the FOM is an art...I say if the USAToday has a hotel sticker on it and the company paid for your room, said USAToday is "company furnished material" and is legal to read during flight...if you trust your new FO enough to take your attention away for that long...here's some flame bait for ya...what controls airspeed...pitch, or power?

I say log it all as turbine PIC. if you think about 777's while in your 152, you should log it.

The guy at SWA will buy it. You will be way ahead of the other chumps in the interview. $crew all these "rule followers"

If you see it, log it.

If you fly it, double it
