As previously said mainline pilot groups allowed most of this RJ silliness to happen years ago. Also, most of you mainliners either came from the military or came up like the rest of us with instruction, charter, regional. Anyone from the military should be thanked for their service and certainly be given a chance at a good civilian job but that same person should not be an elitest snob about their fortunate position if their military experience trumps most of his/her civilian counterparts. On the flipside, the rest of us all share somewhat similar backgrounds on the civilian side, with all of us struggling and doing whatever it took to make it in this unforgiving industry. It is the height of ignorance and snobish boring arrogance to condemm anyone for taking any flying job (barring crossing a picket line) to take care of themselves and their family. Get over yourselves and take back what should have been yours years ago and bring us into the fold. By the way, I make 100K, have all my weekends off, get my first pick most of the time and have almost no fear of getting laid off. All that on 9th year seniority.

That's interesting since 9th year FO pay on the 88 at Delta is only $72k.

On the other hand 2nd year FO pay at UPS is $118k.

I guess stones shouldn't always be thrown without knowing whether you're in a position to back it up.

Now, I'm not saying that's great, but it's a far cry from what you posted. To compare any pax airline to UPS or FedEx may be fun, but it's pointless.

Exactly, he finally gets a chance with his first woman to replace the warm and fuzzy feelings he gets from flying that super-cool RJ and he gets lost in the woods and loses the girl.

Well considering most get 80+ hour lines...your math is out the window. 81 hours usually equals 4x 4 day trips or 3x4 days and a 3 day - all commutable on the front and back end.

I'll let you in on a little secret. Take the hourly rate and just add 4 zeros. With 80 hr lines and per diem it's dead on.

Now for regionals making 100k a year at 9th year pay...someone must live in their aircraft. I prefer NOT to....and trust me, I make 100k and work far less than most of the month.

For a Delta guy hired 9 years ago, would he have been furloughed over that time?

Although I agree that a 9 year guy may make more, that didn't seem to boost his moral when I've talked to the typical jumpseater who was recently put out on the streets.

For you to suggest that it is 100 percent greener on the other side is ridiculous. If it were, there would not be a whole bunch of senior regional captains.
 
Look on the bright side: things will only get worse. With age 65, and massive furloughs which are just starting to ramp up, there will suddenly be a huge over supply of pilots. Just when it looked like things were turning around, and there was all that talk of pilot shortages, and it looked like wages might increase.. Many of these furloughed pilots will be looking for jobs. Places like Virgin with terrible wages will look attractive. And there will be no incentive for them to increase wages, since they know people are stuck. I think anyone with other marketable skills has already left this job. The only ones left are just plain stuck.

We want #s to prove this...and I bet there aren't any.

I made that at 35 (with 13 years seniority) before I left, as far as 20's...I doubt it!

No saying it couldn't be done but I doubt it!

It was the CL600 Challenger that was designed to take over for the Falcons at FedEx, not the CRJ200. But, business was booming at FedEx and they needed much bigger jets than Challengers. The first 21 or so CL600s had doors that hinged on the top and opened up and out of the way for pallet loading. The CRJ200 was developed as a stretched Challenger for the MAJOR airlines to bypass their “choke point” hubs and fly point to point for premium passengers willing to pay for the service. If the major airline pilots would have scoped in the CRJ200, it would have been flown by major airline pilots flying hub bypass instead of further clogging the hubs, per union contracts, as they do today. At least the major unions did protect themselves against hub bypass, but made the aircraft do something it was never designed to do, feed the hub. The CRJ200 is not a good aircraft to feed hubs and the expense of the aircraft is a direct result of operating it out of design.

Like $30,000 first year to fly a 737 or MD80 is any freakin better! It's called first year pay. Get over it. You all did it, but now you're at the Majors so you get to slam RJ pilots. Last I checked, you had to take a Regional job to get to a Major.

Quit slamming RJ's and the pilots that fly them. You sound like elitist snobs. RJ's are better than their predecessors like Saabs, Jetsteams, Short, etc...

Should Major pilots fly them, who knows. If so, then there would be no Regionals, but the RJ's would still be there. Would there be a thread to make fun of them then? Probably not.

Isn't the unity of ALPA wonderful? :rolleyes:

ALPA has always sided with the management side of aviation and gets more dues paying members that fight amongst themselves because ALPA never fought for the profession since deregulation.
