Of course you'd want me to visit a site put together by the mormons as opposed to the site I clicked on (obviously put together my a non-mormon) because they tone it down a little and don't make it sound as nutty.

I don't even know where to start. I think it's utterly outrageous that somebody can actually believe they may become a gods after they die. Also even more bizarre that they believe that God came from some other planet. WTF.

If I'm attempting to learn as much about the Japanese culture as I could, I'm gonna ask someone from Argentina.......some of you guys need to get a life. Look up all of the crazy, false teachings of the Mormon religion if it will make you feel better. Or, just ask a member of the church. It's pretty simple.

Personally, I just love it when people, who obviously have no clue, try and explain to me and others just exactly what it is that I'm supposed to believe. Amazing, simply amazing. I actually find those websites (and others like them) quite comical. If you decide to go down that road, please do your homework - just don't quote the same old stuff that has been discredited long ago.

I went to the SLC Temple once and was picking some of the missionary types brains. Like someone else said, go to the source. The problem was I couldn;t get an answer. What they recited was scripted and purely from rote memory. It was sad that they wouldn't/couldn;t give their own opinion. I pretty get much of the same answer from those who I fly with who are willing to talk about it.

I went to the "other" website and it basically said "when talking to a mormon"...."you cannot believe what they say because they think they believe one thing when the fact is that they believe something totally different, but they don't realize it".
What does that mean? They try to make you think that they are the experts on what I really believe because I'm being fooled.

The plain fact, and the last thing I will say in this discussion is that there has been "anti-mormon" people out there since the begining of the Church, harsh critics that have tried to discredit the foundation upon which it was built. Since the early 1800's when it was orginized people have tried to stop it from growing. I don't think they have done a good job since there are over 12 million members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. No, Salt Lake City isn't predominantly Mormon and there are more church members outside of the U.S. than inside the U.S. today. There is nothing that any website can do or any knuckle Headed Know it all pilot can say to change reality. The false HBO show and the lunatics in southern Utah do not represent anything I believe, in fact I have never lived in Utah and do not plan on moving there so I can be "held in captivity" as some say, by the church leaders. I am free to do as I please and it just so happens that I live my religion which I know to be true. If any of you do not feel like your questions have been answered in good favor, then I'm sorry, maybe someday you will understand to. You can argue points all you want, but you won't put a dent in the direction of the Church.

In the meantime, I hope the guy who started the thread has a good overnight in SLC.

As someone alluded to before, it comes down to faith. If you really want to know about the church, ask UEJ500. I grew up in the church and while I am not an active member, the voiced ignorance of those who know nothing but profess their knowledge of Mormonism really annoys me (I guess this is an open invitation to assail the character of me & my family, an FI tradition). I would be the perfect Mormon if I could forego the occasional “hot drink,” tithe & attend church, but that is not likely to happen, in the near future anyway. For those of you in the know, you can call me “Jack.” Everyone else can refer to me as ***hole or dick****.

Actually it's not that simple. My best friend is from SLC and grew up a Mormon. Growing up, he was one of the kids you see riding on the bicycle wearing the white shirt and black ties. Although he dosent attend church every Sunday, he knows quite a bit about the religion. He will ramble about how important Joseph Smith is, Bringham young, how pure and strict the religion is, yadda yadda, yadda. But what he fails to tell you is everything you will find here: http://www.carm.org/mormon.htm You have to drag it out of him that Mormons believe that some of them can become "gods", and that god came from another planet, among other goofy mormanisms. He'll talk about it, but you have to drag it out of him.
CurtainDriver, I have a life, thank you. I have nothing against the mormon church, however, I think that alot of the beliefs are a little out there for alot of people. My wife has studied the bible her whole life, and is a counselor in a Christain church. She loves it when the mormon kids are wondering the neighborhood to sell their religion. Usually after they go through their spiel, they're left speechless because she proves everthing they say wrong. Needless to say, they never want to come to our house anymore. Most people I know in our neighborhood have made it clear to the mormons that they aren't welcome in the neighborhood, for the exception of my house. But my house is the only house they don't want to come to out of fear that my wife will rip them to shreds andsend them walking with their tails between their legs.
CD, all I'm saying is that if you ask a mormon about the mormon religion, it will be sweetened up and presented to you in a pursuasive way to make you want to join the church. Only later will you learn the quirks of the religion.

I can't really understand why you really even care, or bother for that matter. Is there some medal for Mormonbashing or something? Man, even in the former Soviet Union we were a little more tolerant and open-minded about the white-shirted, backpacked guys, (no bicycles there, we had better public transportation) and our libraries were FULL of propaganda and lies about them. So, I can't imagine why you don't have better things to do with your time than sit around trying to prove something about them or their religion. Unless... you're scared of the truth?:blush:
