Yep, certainly a choice, but if you've been flying part 121 airlines and the Boeing 737 for a long time, I'm sure it'd be easier, less stressful, less of a change, and more comfortable to stick with it plus be around your long time buds and airline routine. BUT-- my point is for an earlier poster -- many guys don't have the retirement $$$ and do need the work...it's not just a matter of "I want to fly for fun"...as if these guys could afford to buy their own $175,000 airplane or something, as he infers.

I've been at SWA now for almost two years. I bid out of OAK for LAS for Feb. Saw the bid results for Feb, immediately changed my bid back to OAK, and now am stuck in LAS at least through the end of Mar. Anybody know what the chances are of going back to OAK sooner rather than later? I would be about 40% or so up the OAK FO list.

Excuse me while I weep for the unhired.

The age 60 guys could make the transition, but if they have been happy and it's easier to stay with what they have been doing, why change? Would you? It's smart and they have the right. As far as "holding up..." thanks for your dose of libarilism...Hillary and John Edwards would love you, but what about some of these guys who have little in retirement, don't they need and have the right to take care of themselves? The answer is yes.

My SWA buddy told me that he read in the "industry news" part of his union newspaper that the company might even cut capacity. Not sure if you guys had heard that or not. Wouldn't that mean no new classes? Ironically, he also said that the load factor was higher this Jan than last Jan.

I don't really get it. I guess you poolies should just be glad you aren't DAL or NWA poolies. I'm not even sure that their pool dates would be honored after a merger (we can only assume that the junior folks at those places will be looking for work).

That's not holding up anyone's career. They would be on a level playing field there. SWA is giving them an unfair advantage. They are jumping ahead of everyone else that has already been placed in the pool a while ago. I have no problem with them getting hired somewhere, but they need to get hired just like everyone else and not jump ahead of anyone.

They worked hard for SWA and helped make them a success and also paid in thousands of dollars to SWAPA, something "everyone else" hasn't, so they deserve to go first in line. Nothing "unfair" at all in that. Matter of fact, it's very fair. Apparently some of you guys act like you think SWA is some sort of charity instead of a business and they can hire who they want and do what they want.

I know if you are in the pool you may feel as if the company owes you a swift hire date but really you should know a little history. There was a time in SWA's past when furloughs were announced and were about to take place, but the "old geezers" you so dispise took an hours cut to ensure the young FO's working would not be cut. I think you can just look at this as pay back for their generosity in the past. Suck it up you will be here sooner or later. If you don't think you are getting a fair deal and you are already whining, go somewhere else. I have no desire to fly with a bunch of spoiled brats that are set to whine at the least bit of adversity. You gotta be tough to fly light twins here at SWA.
