Yeah, it's way better than most other airline gigs out there but it is shocking how far it's dropped in the last year or so here...the rate of increase of the retardedness is the key here. It leaves a lot of us wondering how much longer until it REALLY does suck here...at this rate, it wont be long. I still like working here and the flexibility is great but I just wonder how long for the other shoe to drop.

PS Gup, hang in there brudda

PPS Tanker clown...please stay in the Air Force

Daddy,

What's your idea of REALLY suck? Do you have prior airline experience factored into your perspective?

Gup,
As a poolie, it was actually refreshing (believe it or not) to hear a negative perspective of the company for a change. Sometimes it makes me wonder with all the positive comments, if everyone is telling the truth or just blowing smoke.

That said, I've looked real close at your gripes and their merits. From a guy on the outside looking in, I have a real hard time seeing anything that even comes close to what pilots in the rest of the industry have had to deal with (pay cuts, loss of pension, furloughs, etc.). Granted, you know the company much better than I, and I don't doubt what you say is true about WN not being the same as it once was.

I just think that with the industry in such a turbulent state, it's unrealistic to expect everything at WN to operate as if there were no problems at all. You sound very frustrated at how WN is no longer the same as it used to be---I can only imagine how great that must have been, but still look forward to working for what I still consider the best airline out there today.

I have no illusions of the problems in the airline industry and the challenges Southwest faces over the next few years. I worry about the future of the company, furloughs, and just whether my training date will slip once again. None of that, however rises to the level to make me give up my pool slot, or to give up flying altogether.

Definitely hang in there Gup. I'm hoping that your statement about not wanting to go "the extra mile"
was made more out of frustration, than not caring. From what everyone on the "inside" tells me, I think SWA is still too good of a company to give up on.

Thanks for keeping things honest.

Yo! What's that all about? Man, I'm not sure why you are being so hostile.

the hostility is due to your asinine posts.

my buddy is in your unit, and says that you are positively the worst pilot and fantasy football player he has ever met.

shouldn't you be pretending to be an airline pilot on Second Life right now?

Wow, there's some serious brown nosing. I could be wrong, but I don't think you move up in the pool any quicker if you're wearing knee pads.

406, you obviously don't have what it takes to be a SWA pilot. With that attitude, there's no way you would ever make it through the interview. You just don't seem to have the SWA spirit.

BTW, I'm not the worst pilot your buddy has ever seen. If I was, I'd be working at Delta. Ha Ha.

Finally, I don't even know what Second Life is. Is that one of your pedophile games? Do they have a direct link to it off the NAMBLA web site?

OK Guys, this thread was started for people in the SW pool to keep each other informed, not a "what's so great about working at WN" thread. There's
plenty of that on here if that's what you're looking for...

I'm not so sure things are that great there.

it seems like the same 5-10 guys recycling backwashed kool-aid day after day on all the SWA threads.

although i'm sure that blueandwhite buffoon would love another glassful of backwashed kool-aid.

Hey Poolies,

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my buddy (he just completed is PC down at DAL) was told that classes are going to be postponed until the second quarter. He said it's because of "softening domestic demand" and due to that they are parking some of the old 300's at a faster pace.

He said that they have cut thier deliveries and essentially accelerated the parking of jets. Therefore, there is a net decrease in pilots needed for now.

Good luck. Hope the economy picks up and this is all a bad dream.
