I got the call with 5200TT, 1750 PIC, 4 YR College, 737 Type, and no CheckAir/ Eval pilot.


I think the 1700-1800 PIC is about right...

But what do I know!

well I talked to a few Delta pilots (Ex military off course) the other day in the shuttle to the airport and they had a few military "buddies" who just got hired with NO 737 type rating and a lot less time than 4000-5000 hours TT.

Looks like SWA is the new Delta.....

the dudes in the shuttle van who "had some military buds" get hired could have been blowing smoke. In any event, it is far from confirmed 3-green down and locked fact.

Maintain present heading (building time, experience, etc) and don't let rumors, innuendo, BS, your barber's brother who lives next to a SW Captain, etc, alter your course

Krusty, what's with that attitude? Shot down by Delta and the military at some point? Better throttle back a bit. I've met great CRJ drivers, Delta pilots, civilian pilots as well as military pilots. I've also me all the above that are absolute wastes of O-2. Get some decaf, fly your plane and try to play well with others. We're all on the same team so let's act like it.

I have had my application in with SWA for almost a year now.

4 senior internal LOR's

I have 10,000 hours total, 5300 turbine pic with 1800 737 pic current and qualified.

The only thing I dont have is a 4 year degree...I will graduate in May 2005.

I have not been called and the only thing I can figure is I am missing the computer search by not having that college degree box checked.

Point...GO FINISH YOUR DEGREE, dont be stupid like me.

I am still enrolled @ Embry-Riddle, it may take me until the end of the year to finish my BS, I am doing my type this month then right into the next semester.

Just wanted to put a bump on this thread as there have been quite a few calls for June interviews. Callees, would you mind posting your PIC times. Anybody called with 1500 hours PIC?

Just to keep things on the level, LORs do not come into play until after you have interviewed. So having a LOR or ten from senior capts will not get you an interview any sooner than having a few LORs from newhires.

My contacts tell me they look for the following in a successful candidate:

1. Pic Turb > 1700
2. Currently flying with good currency > 2 years in cockpit without a break
3. Total time (non-mil) >5000 (mil total time is lower)
4. Leadership role (check airman) good but not necessary
5. 737 type is necessary
6. Broad scope of flying experience, usually means a few different types of planes or jobs
7. 4 year degree

Just hoping for a call. I can't retire until early next year. Kind of curious as to why SWA put the date of availability in the app? Any thoughts?

Was at HP yesterday to get my book and pay my deposit. Lindsey was there and pretty much confirmed everything you guys said. 1600-1800 Turbine PIC

As Lindsey said: There was a time .....if you have 1000 Turbine PIC and a type you will get the call; That time doesn't exist anymore but could come back.

The pool is always changing but if I was reading between the line correctly......Turbine PIC time will start to come down for canidates they call to interview.

for some reason all the "1600-1800-2000 turbine PIC" posts make me thing that the mins are 1600-1800-2000 turbine PIC.

As Rummy would say this is "unknowable". It just depends who else is out there. We've hired folks with no degree and there we several 135 only types in my class. They are going to interview all their high time/4 year degree/typed/military trained/121 time folks first. I think they'll be interviewing you before they talk to folks who just barely make the mins, but not before anybody with 3k Turb PIC. My guess would put you somewhere in between the bottom and the middle of the stack. But who really knows? And lots of things change affect that order: how much 737 time do you have? Focus on what you can change: are you close to that degree? Is it practical to get some 121 time? Or maybe just keep building 135 turbine PIC. If you get a chance to talk to anyone in the People department, focus on what you can do to be more competetive, not so much where you are in line.

Good luck, you might not get here soon, but it is possible and this crazily competetive job market won't last forever.

To all those who have recently received their 737 Type Rating: Approximately how much does it cost (I realize that the fee varies from place to place). And, how long does it take?

FWIW -

Anecdotal evidence suggests that ever since they lowered their hiring projections, and froze hiring the last couple of months, things have definately gotten a bit more competative.

I spoke to a SWA CP two weeks ago and the magic number appears to have gone up. I am being told that I will need between 2200 - 2500 Turbine PIC to be considered for a call. I was told 1700 - 1900 Turbine PIC back last fall by RK in the PD.

I believe that the number might be lower for MIL guys and CIV guys with heavy jet time. If one or two major carriers goes tango uniform this year, the numbers may go up even further considering not just the mainline guys hitting the breadline but also the regional guys who flew for the mainline as well. Lets hope that does not happen, for everybody's sake.

I have approx 4000TT, 2000 PIC 121 (J41, D328Jet, and CRJ) and I was told (at AIR Inc last weekend) that I'd need another 700-800 hours and a 737 type to be remotely competitive. Oh well....

Captain Overs, I don't know if your post is some sort of inside joke, or if you're serious. If you're serious, let me suggest that you re-read many of the SWA "qualified" strings that have been written over the past few months. Many people who have better times than j41driver are still waiting for a call. (This isn't personal, j41 has more 121 P than do I)

Obviously, j41 is competitive, but it seems unlikely that his numbers will guarantee an immediate call.

Other than that, good luck to j41, and all the rest of us "waiting for the call"
