It's actually worse than pay for training....

At least at outfits like Gulfstream and Miami Air, which were founded by Eastern Scabs, they let you buy the uniform and log time in the aircraft.....

Sadly, for guys like Fudgepacker, just because you buy the Type you may still get shot down in the Interview, background check or as in Fudge's case, guys who knew you in the military can pass on the negative Intel to the Chief Pilots review board......

Fudge fell for the ol PFI. (pay for the interview)

It's worth the risk as long as you don't burn your bridges in the Military....Right Fudge?

Did I mention that we are -800s in less than 180 days? They will allow for decrease in airframes and block hours with constant ASMs.
I flew with a senior guy last week that wants Gary to "man up and admit that we have overhired and fix it." Because he "should not have to continue to suffer through decreased line totals and unproductive trips." "Gary owes it to the employees and shareholders to do the right thing here and get rid of all the probies NOW then take a good hard look at the 2008 group." Because he "has lost $40000/year in earnings since 2006." He thinks we need to put out at least 400.
The fact is that the senior guys here normally get what they want. It (hopefully) won't go as far as this guy wants it to but the top portion of the list will be really unhappy if we hire.

Tell the dumb ass to buy a smart phone. My line totals and TFP have never been higher.

And BTW, you ever heard of a training bubble? The AirTran jets are going in every 15 days and will be coming out the back end of the chute before their pilots have transitioned. Top that off with retirements starting in 422 days and a spring schedule ramp up and you need extra bodies.

Had a buddy get an email this week to set up an interview date the second week of November. He doesn't have a type rating. Retired Navy guy probably around 5,500-6,000 hours.

Overheard the LAS chief say that the time from interview to class will be so short that those with types will get the jobs (over those without)....

Oh.........SNAP! Sacha was smacked on that one. Doesn't he understand that paying for the right to interview is BAD? If you got a type somewhere else, then that is one thing, but the majority do not, and it's bad practice for an airline that clearly could afford it but does not do it.

Do they know that they will be junior FOREVER? They will be below all of the young Airtran pilots, who will not move a seat for decades. That means every weekend at a layover somewhere in Texas, and every holiday in Oklahoma or maybe Arkansas. Hopefully they know this going into the interview....

Your FOs are going to be saying the same thing. The big difference now is that your airline isn't as profitable as it was, the merger will take a lot of cash away and cause problems, and a younger group is coming in, with very few retirements for the next decade.
