Looking on Google Earth I don't see any gas stations at the end of 31C at 55th and Central. Guess the fuel hedges are working fine. No reports of any serious injuries BTW

It was Southwest 1248 from Baltimore. Reports say there was no injuries. Everyone safe, crew and passengers.

...CNN reporter on the scene pointed out he is a STUDENT PILOT and ALMOST has his liscense, so we know he'll get only the facts...

Plane Overshoots Runway, Lands On Busy Road

(CBS) CHICAGO CBS 2 has learned a plane has slid off the runway at Midway Airport and onto Central Ave.

Southwest Flight 1248 from Baltimore reportedly overshot the runway and crashed through a metal fence at 55th and Central, ending up in the middle of Central Ave. The plane was reportedly bound for Las Vegas.

The plane has been evacuated.

Ten ambulances have been sent to the scene.

WBBM 780 reports that at least one car was struck and one person had to be extricated.

An aircraft mechanic at Midway told WBBM-AM that the plane's nose gear had collapsed, at least one of the engines was damaged and the jet appeared to have been hit by a vehicle.

Fire officials say 98 people may have been on board this plane. There are no reports of serious injuries on the plane. They are being checked out on CTA warming buses.
