Skywest to buy Mesaba?

I made a simple observation about aircraft. If MESA dies and their aircraft are parted out then I would rather see them where I work. Doesn't mean I want folks to lose their jobs.
 
New Vacancy bid 10-3 out tonight at EV. Only one vacancy available per a/c showing but they can award more. Strange. Maybe there is truth to some sort of asset buyout/merger rumor.
 
Mesaba is currently owend by DL right? When CAL IPO'd XJT the flow thru went out the window.

the flow is written into the sale if the airline is sold. The only way the flow doesnt go along with the sale is if its negotiated away which i dont see happening.

Its been rumored for a long time that DALPA wants to have flowthrough agreements in place with all DCI carriers so as the regionals consolidate (more to come imho) than that may just happen.
 
Comair also hired a ton of guys, and then furloughed them.
You never can tell what Delta is doing next, because they have no idea themselves.
 
I am curious what exactly anyone would be buying if they purchased Mesaba.
Some old ground equipment? Some computers? Mesaba doesn't own anything significant. None of the airplanes. None of the buildings.

I mean sure Skywest could buy us but wouldn't it be cheaper to just setup their own NASA style SOC and tell Delta they could operate the 200's/900's cheaper and just convince them to turn them over?

This is an entertaining thread but other than buying the expenses of Mesaba - labor contracts and leases what do we have that Skywest wants that they couldn't get on their own?

Maybe Skywest is looking for another 90% capacity agreement out of DTW, MSP, MEM. Knowing how NWA was, I think the days of those kind of agreements is long past. It takes control away from Delta.

Skywest could get our planes just by being cheaper and Delta could give them to them. Buying us doesn't make sense. But this thread is certainly entertaining and it's making some people nervous and others hopeful. Me, well I will just wait and see. Most of the senior folks have been through worse.
 
im telling you if this is true than it is a shame. Mesaba (although we but heads occasionally) is a great company with an almost perfect saftey record. They are the oldest regional around and they have a lot of great people working for them. They have a great tradition and for the most part when times were good they treat their people great. In the last 10 years they have had to endure a sham bancruptcy and then up and down emotions time and time again. I would seriously hope that if this happens its a straight merger with date of hire. If its a purchase ASA better give mesaba pilots first chance at jobs even though the damage done to the mesaba senior pilots would be tremendous.
 
Correction... It is a perfect safety record. No fatalities and only one hull loss cause by an idiot mechanic.

If we did merge with ASA and the the Mesaba brand went away it would be a shame. Getting rid of the brand that isn't marred by a horrible reputation for reliability would be ridiculous! I know ASA has turned the ship around but a bad reputation is hard to get rid of. I still don't see what exactly Skywest Inc. would be getting that they couldn't just bid for. Not to mention having Skywest Inc. have even more of a stranglehold on the DCI flying is kinda crazy.
 

Just remember that what goes around comes around in this career. Your furloughs at ASA should remind you of that. Northwest (althought not the greatest airline in the world) was consistent. You were down, then built up and then sold. Mesaba was on the upswing right before the merger happened. You ask any former NWairlinker about this merger and i bet 8 out of 10 would say I want the red tail back.
 
So what happend to Anderson saying he wanted to bring more of the connection flying IN HOUSE not sell it to an already dominant sized Skywest Inc. Delta would potentially be setting up the next Republic airlines doing that. Someone that would have the money to become a stand alone and start competing against Delta. Not a smart move.

Actually we were down, DAL took us lower, then we were sold to and turned-around by our current mgmt.

DAL is oppressive to its W/Os. If Mesaba gets sold to a good company they'll appreciate the improvements. We had the same hard feelings when we got sold off, but other than travel benefits(which turned out better than the other DCI carriers anyway) It's been much better.

DAL and DALPA don't want flow-through. They want complete control of everything.
 
Unfortunately, I am assuming that Skywest Inc. will be buying Mesaba only for the CRJ-900 airframes. The Saabs are on the way out already and Delta wants to get rid of more CRJ-200's. From a business standpoint, it is a lot cheaper just to hire 450 pilots at $23 an hour (since the rumor is that we want to hire that amount in early 2011) instead of integrating Mesaba's pilot group. I hope I am wrong for the sake of the Mesaba pilot group...it is a brutal industry.

I absolutely agree with this, just look at what the interview process for Compass is now vs. before the merger. It does not appear as though our double-breasted owners appreciate the idea of someone else doing the hiring.

As for XJ being bought? Like someone else said, we don't actually own anything but some avro pictures and broken gpu's :) but damn, why not? Sounds like just as much fun as the current outlook. Personally, if I had to be sold then the Skywest family looks a whole lot better than Republic.
 
If Delta lets republic buy anybody then there is back door meetings going on that none of us want to hear. Letting your competitor fly more planes for you only means that they are really not your competitor..........................................................................................................................................................................................
