SkyWest takes Delta for Everything It's Got

You will ALWAYS lose debating me. Let's say I stay at Delta the rest of my career, and you stay at SkyWest. How will we do then? I can move up to larger aircraft, and our current contract will be up in 5 years, and hoping that we do better financially---we can get a raise. I will probably get 15% matching for our new Defined Contribution program (that is what United has.....)---so I will probably get 15% of my monthly Captain salary matched in my new 401K etc. That is a lot. Even with a NW merge, I should still be a Captain due to a % merger. So, how will I do compared to you? 3 or 4 times more? How about when we both turn 60? You are very likely getting a pay freeze or pay cut soon, which is unfortunate---but the way the regionals are going too. We all are going to get a pay cut. And, you will be the one smelling my fart in the terminal. It was Wendy's.

OK. I'm going to go rrrreaaallllllyyyyyy slow so you can follow along. I know sometimes we move a bit fast for a certain laid back captain wannabe from the deep south.

Exactly what SKYW pilots were told when they were voting on the 50-99 seat pay deal wasn't it? I think partial or total loss of UAX codeshare was also predicted. Kind of ironic that you'd use the same line of logic.

In followup I tried to get you to explain the difference. Now keep in mind that SkyWest pilots knew UAL was in bankruptcy. And remember how as you've stated, that SkyWest is totally dependent on mainline for their existence. So really what's the difference? In your case DAL is bankrupt. In the case of SkyWest the source of most of the revenue was bankrupt. DAL is an airline. As you've pointed out numerous times, SkyWest is "just feed."

You're either hypocritical or ignorant. Your response will help us decide which.

And Mookie, the HUD will be nice, I already used it in the sim a few times and watched the Captains I flew with use it. Can't wait. You have fun in your CR7 the rest of your career too.

Even though you like to call me an A hole often, you seem like you really want to debate this. Ok then. You were the first airline to agree to the "any plane for X amount of pay" scheme. That in itself has changed the regional industry. Out of nowhere management types jumped up for joy, high fiving eachother. You didn't even get a $5 difference an hour in pay for your larger aircraft. That is bad. As I said before, we brought our 757 pay UP TO the 767 pay. Big difference. Now jetblue management sets a rate for the 100 seater, and everyone has to take notice. They are profitable and are expanding, and the rest of us are NOT. IF we want to compete, we have to negotiate to fly at something close. You guys really just gave up the farm. You went all the way to 99 seats---not just 70. We aren't agreeing to one pay rate fits all, just a 100 seat rate close to the Jetblue rate. (although USAir/AWA just negotiated a rate a bit higher--$98 an hour for 12 year captain---even though Jetblue goes 1 1/2 pay after 70 hours).

Again---you didn't have to go up to 99 seats for one pay rate. You could have had a $5 difference an hour for the larger plane (CR7), but did not. I am not ignorant---I can see what happened. Sure, you were faced with possible expulsion from UAL had you not taken pay cuts or pay limits---but you went overboard with the "anything up to 99 seats for the same pay."

Great post and very clear. Perhaps people will read this and actually think about what they are saying before they type it on these boards...

Unfortunately Skywest pilots have earned a reputation for "caving" to management without much of a fight while the DAL guys are at least trying to preserve the bar (to the extent possible with the industry changes and high gas prices).

In this day and age when management will do anything to exploit you, the saying "you get what you negotiate" rings true...
