The better things in life. Oh my god. Your CEO and your passengers know what those things are. You are their driver.

Yup the driver and they pay me well, treat me with respect, provide me excellent qol, bennies, 401k yada yada. They know they bought into safety and experience.

Just like you're the driver of the cattle in back who paid the lowest fare they could possibly find.

That was pretty low. Cattle? Come on. They are human beings.

And I'd just like to add that if you can't make it on $100k, you have some SERIOUS financial management issues. The "cattle" in the back already had that figured out.

Just what i was trying to say. If 100K is not enought then you really have some issues.
Oh yeah, hey diesel at least we dont have to pick up after people or clean up puke.... yeah, you go ahead and keep your head burried up everyone's A$$ to keep making your 100K

Eaglefly,

I just got done reading this (mostly) pathetic post (thanks to the salary bashing).... good on you mate. I would be making the same exact choice in your shoes. Some people just don't understand the fact that, it doesn't matter what you fly or even what airline you fly for, what matters is the family life and not being married to the job. I commend you for seeing the big picture.

cheers, another happy member of the AMR dysfunctional family 73

Do you think that on average the passengers are making more then 125K?

You can live very well on 100k. I know I do. But 100k after 18 years of work is just not enough. Sure you can live on it. Comfortably.

Its just not enough after 18 years of service. It really isn't much in the big picture of things.

Wouldn't it be nice to own that house instead of rent the apt? What about going out to the movies instead of renting one?

Little things... little things.

But hey thanks for being predictable.

Yes, that would be nice. But I think I speak for a bunch of us when I say that you could buy a house with an income of far less than $100K--it's just about how much "luxury" you think that you need.

I would submit that all luxury is marginal, meaning it really isn't that important. Say I have the option of buy a Lexus vs. a Toyota--they both get me from point A to point B in safety and comfort and efficiency, and in the same amount of time, so the luxury is marginal, meaning that the fancy stuff like leather seats and power windows and whatever "crap" they install on the car to raise the price isn't worth the extra money you pay. Some cars have wipers on the headlights. In my 14 years of driving, I would have used that approximately two times. Give me a break.

P.S. And as far as movies go, if everyone needed $100k to go to movies, the theatres would be empty. You just can't go every night... but who would want to do that?

Well said Goose...but just give it a minute, as usual Diesel is gonna come back with some sorry a$$ speach to justify what he said. Oh and by the way like goose said, I went to the movies last friday, but it would be stupid to piss away $30 4 times a week at the movies just b/c I have nothing better to do with my money.

I had a house when my wife and I had a combined income of 55K/year back in the early to mid 90's. We lived in a nice little suburb of Fort Lauderdale and had a pool. It can be done.

Btw, nice post aa73 (from another one who sees the big picture). :)

Yup! Just got back from the interview yesterday--still waiting for a class date... I'll probably hear by tomorrow. The F-100 sim was a riot!

-Goose

Did you just get on at eagle bud?

Goose..I got the sim coming up on tuesday..any insights???

Just relax and have fun--the thing is pretty cool, and I actually enjoyed it a lot. You get a very thourough briefing beforehand. Actually, the sim is described pretty well on the gouges on aviationinterviews.com, so you might want to check it out.

I had zero jet time, and had never flown glass, and the guy told me that I did well. That's a good feeling!

People forget.............

18 year EMB-145 CA pay at AE is LESS than 3rd year 767/A300 FO pay. 757 pay is about the same.

AA has the same domiciles as AE (minus SJU, plus DCA, SFO, and STL). I don't buy the QOL/commuting reason for not wanting to flow.

The work rules at AA are about 10x better than at AE.

They've got a pension.

There are solutions that can be reached here.

1. Send AE flowthrus to AA at current pay (would cost AMR NOTHING since they'd be paying them all that hourly rate anyway if they stayed at AE). Then all 400+ FTs would probably go.

And........

2. Withhold AE flowthrus at AE until they can hold the domicile of their choice at AA.

That'd probably take care of everything.

This solves the AE problem, but how is this fair to the guys already at AA? If I am a new-hire at AA, I want the same pay that the other new hires at AA will get, even if they are coming over from AE.

This is like saying an 18 year Comair guy should get 18 year Delta pay from day one of basic indoc at Delta. NOOOO way is that fair.

No, it seems as though AE did the right thing a while ago when it offered a career type of position in the regional airline industry. Now, frankly, because every other regional has undercut them, including the one I work for, they are finding themselves at a competitive disadvantage. This is unfortunate, but the only fair thing for AE to do is to honor their contract with the pilots who did nothing wrong other than to do what the company asked of them.

Simple solution....1 seniority list!! Staple Eagle guys to the bottom and all future new hires at AA will just have to suck it up and fly a barbie jet for a couple years. I can hear all the military pilots whining now. How dare they have to fly a barbie jet they all say.

To the bottom? I dont think that would go over too well with the guys here with AA numbers, espically since the judge ruled that the TWA guys generated new numbers, this would put all of the AE guys with AA numbers ahead of them.

Those guys wouldn't like it, but it would be in the best long-term interest of both groups to have all flying (or 95% of it, AX notwithstanding) on one list. AA/AE could accomplish what Delta & CMR/ASA failed to do!

Pay protect Eagle pilots at their current hourly rate and put a fence in place protecting current Eagle CAs from a bump/flush. Very little downside in that scenario.

Would it be easy? No. Would there be opposition on both sides? Yes. Would it be in the long-term best interests of both groups? I'd say very much so...then again, my employment was divorced from AMR 3+ years ago...

The only way ALPA could vacate the current AA seniority numbers of Eagle pilots who own them is with those pilots approval on an individual basis.

Your idea is a non-starter.
