Years a ago a drug ring wanted to up its load out of CRW so they switched from a king air type to a DC4 or 6. Too much pot, too heavy and the aircraft went over the edge and down......

Any details?

Is the EMAS part of the stopway? How'd they get into the EMAS?

Do the ACARS numbers keep you out of the EMAS if you stomp on it at V1-1kt?

I'm under the impression that depending on your performance vendor, yes the EMAS area may be considered part of a 'clearway' or 'stopway' and therefore be usable in factoring accelerate-stop numbers. Maybe you even get a little extra because of being able to sink into the porous concrete like they did and stop far quicker than if it were just plain runway surface. Who knows?
 
EMAS cannot be considered when calculating balance field length....remember accelerate stop distance is not the same thing.
 
EMAS should be at the end of every runway; think of all the runway overruns we've had in the last few years. Southwest, Pinnacle, Shuttle America, American, ASA-seems like every airline has had at least one. And also you have the learjet accident in CAE that overran at a high speed so it may not have helped with that one. Too bad it costs so much
